President Trump Visits The U.N. To Push For Reform

NBC: Trump Offers Support for U.N. Reform

President Donald Trump offered hope on Monday for the future of the United Nations — an organization he previously derided as inefficient.

Speaking at a session aimed at reforming the U.N., Trump said the body had "not reached its full potential" in recent years because of "bureaucracy and mismanagement." He went on to express faith and support for U.N. Secretary General António Guterres' "great reform vision" and commended him for ushering in much needed change in the deliberative body.

Though the U.N.'s budget and staff have increased, "we are not seeing the results in line with this investment," but Trump added that under the secretary general that's "changing fast."

WNU Editor: The media is focused on this .... President Trump makes a plug for his tower during UN speech (USA Today) .... but President Trump is right that the UN needs to reform itself. Will such reforms happen .... I give it a 0.001% chance.

  3. WNU,
With 0.001% chance you are very generous. UN is, at this state, exactly as SDN was before WWII. There so much "banana republic " and many dictatorship in UN, that we cannot recognize the first spirit establishing UN.
We have to get out of this swamp and make an other organization. The " United Democratic World Association" which have better item to accept new member. And believe me this new organization will represent more than 80 % of the world power (of any kind). This will be the end of UN....without the money of all Democracy's.

  4. Jac. ..the entire idea of the UN is to deescalate conflicts by allowing differences in governmental models. And you do not need a country to be a democracy to be a friend. Case in point is Vietnam - certainly not a democracy, but very friendly to the US (despite the war!) and opposing of eg China - even though, from a governing perspective Vietnam is closer aligned to the Chinese than the American/western model.

Also, a democratic union as you suggest would not represent "80%" in whatever unit you're measuring (by gdp? By population? By military strength/spending? ) you're far off. Very far.

Lastly, democracy will not thrive -and this has been shown over and over again, if we resort to military and confrontation. Don't you learn from even recent history?
