USNI News: Admiral, Captain Removed in Ongoing Investigations into USS John S. McCain, USS Fitzgerald Collisions; Head of Surface Forces Puts in Early Retirement Request
The commander of the Navy’s largest operational battle force and his subordinate in charge of the attached destroyer squadron have been removed from their positions as a result of ongoing investigations into a string of incidents this year that resulted in the death of 17 sailors and hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, USNI News has learned.

When they "fire" someone like this does that mean they are discharged too?
ReplyDeleteI doubt its early retirement for these two. Considering their ranks, they are likely to be put elsewhere in the navy, unless they voluntarily take retirement.

They will have letters of reprimands placed in their jackets due to an Admiral's Mast. In 1 to 3 years they will not be continued in service. They are in a netherworld. At some point they have to jump and do something else, something non-Navy.
It is kind of like the following quote except with a time limit.
"Yoshida maintains his and his colleagues innocence, quietly exiling Ishihara to a desk job back in Japan" - Rising Sun with Wesley Snipes and Sean Connery
This is not the proper clip. The quote above comes a little later in the movie.

I do not know that this move is fair, but it will get people's attention.
ReplyDeleteFor how long it will 'change' the culture, positively or negatively, I won't guess.
However, people will pay more attention to the rules of the Road & navigation.
Plowman,
ReplyDeleteThey are gone in 1 to 3 year's time.
