Will The Political And Social 'Wars' Become A Permanent Part Of The NFL?

Sporting News: Why didn't TV networks show angry, booing NFL fans Sunday or Monday?

With President Donald Trump's attacks against protesting NFL players still reverberating, the league's TV partners decided to air live coverage of the national anthem before Week 3 games. Those partners left out a key element of the coverage: crowd shots of angry fans.

Networks typically do not televise the national anthem except for the Super Bowl and other special occasions, but they recognized there would be intense viewer interest this past weekend.

Update #1: Donald Trump vs. Pro Football Is a Ratings Game the NFL Can’t Win (Bloomberg).
Update #2: After first widespread protest wave, NFL players face critical question: What's next? (Lindsay H. Jones, USA TODAY Sports)

WNU Editor: I can only speak for myself. I usually watch a game on Sunday if I am home and I have nothing else planned. I would be doing this blog, and the game would be playing on the TV screen. And if the game is close .... my full attention would then be on it. This weekend I did put on a game ... but after a few minutes where the announcers were doing nothing but talking about the protests .... I closed the TV and played a movie on one of my computer screens. My spirit for the game was no longer there , and I suspect that I am not alone with these feelings. Is this a permanent condition .... probably not .... there is nothing out there that can replace NFL football. But like I said .... the spirit and interest is not there right now.

  1. Local talk show host is very vocal about not watching teams. It is a team by team 'boycott' now, but it could become a blanket boycott.

College and high school football is still watched.

Anon named a beer that has a virtually zero market share after being sold in the 1980s.

Anon could have spent a few minutes web searching for information on beer drinking.

Maybe Anon does not know these statistics, because he drinks:

    a) Colt 45
    b) Vodka
    c) Frappuccino
