ABC News Online: Kurdish referendum: President Barzani declares victory in independence vote amid threats
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Masoud Barzani has declared a victory for the "yes" vote in the Kurdish independence referendum, amid ongoing threats of being cut off from Baghdad and a swathe of regional neighbours.
"You, the people of Kurdistan, you did not allow your will to be broken," Mr Barzani said.
Speaking in a televised address, Mr Barzani called on Iraq's central Government in Baghdad to engage in "serious dialogue … instead of threatening" the KRG with sanctions and for neighbouring countries to respect the will of millions of people who voted yes on Monday.
