Congresional Democrats Move To Block President Trump From Launching A Pre-emptive Attack On North Korea

The Guardian: Democrats push bill to stop a Trump pre-emptive strike on North Korea

* Conyers-Markey legislation has two Republican backers in House
* President’s threat to ‘totally destroy’ North Korea fuelled nuclear war fears

Congressional Democrats have introduced legislation aimed at preventing Donald Trump from launching a pre-emptive attack on North Korea, as concerns grew about the administration’s failure to explore talks with Pyongyang.

The “No Unconstitutional Strike against North Korea” bill is the second legislative attempt to curtail’s Trump power to start a war unilaterally. Earlier this year, a bill was introduced to prohibit the president from ordering a nuclear first strike against a foreign adversary without a declaration of war by Congress, amid concerns over Trump’s belligerent language, erratic behaviour and frequent tweeted threats against other countries.

WNU Editor: Congress was successful in derailing President Trump's strategy and polices in regards to Russia .... Russia And The EU React To The U.S. Congress Passing New Sanctions On Russia (July 26, 2017), so why not North Korea . Will it happen? In the past I would say "no-way". But with this Congress .... coupled with Republican establishment resentment of President Trump .... I am not sure.

  1. There is a big downside for the Demoncrat party.

For example North Korea might conduct an nuclear atmospheric test over the Pacific.

  2. Madness.

The North Koreans will be watching. Such a bill actually undermines the national security, not increase it in any fashion.

How do you think North Korea will act? Only with more bellicose. This will embolden them to go further believing that such legislation will prevent an American pre-emptive attack.

    1. I agree, this is not the time to show division and weakness.
What is trump to do if a preemptive strike is required, debate it in congress on tv so Kim can tune in?

  3. WNU Editor,

The White House "parked" the Congress's Russian Sanctions.

  4. In a democracy, faz, you argue for what you believe is right, a sane course of action, and do not merely go along with a party or leader to show unity, unless there is a formal declaration of war...
there is a distinct difference between bombing N. K. prior to their doing some we think we can not like or accept, and bombing because they do something that demades action.
Alas, Trump has shown himself not overly stable and often doing things contrary to what advisors suggest, ie, Pentagon said war with NK would cost 300,000 lives...you want to bomb them because, well, their leader keeps making threats which so far have not amounted to anything

    1. They are not empty threats only means to carry out the threat is missing and time is short.
300,000 dead is no more credible than Pentagon estimates of 25000 us dead on the first week of conflict in 91 .
Perhaps it is preferable to have nukes sold to the highest bidder, or to have your nation blackmailed for decades, or a launch on the mainland when he has nothing to lose?

  5. No, no, no. You do not understand. This time the North Koreans will see that we really are nice guys and will meet us at the DMZ to join hands and sing kumbaya. Appeasement works.

    - such as naming agents or the people they run

    - telling aggressors if they take 20% of another country you will not act, but if they take 100% you will.

North Korean threats have not amounted to anything because we uncovered their 5 secret invasion tunnels and there fore they could not surprise us. If we had been caught napping ....

    - People in the Democrat party leadership are notoriously not stable. Nancy Pelosi is a lush. Harvey Weinstein has nothing on Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd, who use to publicly (La Brassarie) sexually assault women. You be happy to know it stopped. Ted died of brain cancer and Dodd retired like a grandee (or Roman senator) to his estate in Ireland. Keith Ellison got his start at the racist Nation of Islam. Perhaps that is why he is so popular among Democrats. Bill Clinton was/is not stable; he hit on anything that moved. Hillary like to throw things at Bill while calling him a F___ing Jew.

  7. Fred, if a declaration of war by congress was a prerequisite the us would have known peace for over over 70 years.
The threat is clear, debate in congress will only embolden Kim and cost American and coalition lives.
