U.S. Congress Has Approved Funding To Find An A-10 Replacement

Popular Mechanics: Congress Approves $400 Million for an 'A-10 Warthog Lite'

Small but packed with firepower and sensors, OA-X will chase down guerillas and terrorists.

A partial replacement for the A-10 Warthog has reached a key milestone, with lawmakers backing a $400 million investment in the program. The OA-X program, designed to procure a light attack/observation aircraft, could see up to 300 aircraft purchased by the U.S. Air Force to take over aerial warfare in low-intensity conflicts.

The Air Force took one step closer to fielding a fleet of up to 300 light attack aircraft. Funding for the OA-X, or Observation, Attack, Experimental aircraft was included by Congress in the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act, otherwise known as the 2018 Defense Budget.

WNU Editor: I call this an acknowledgement from the Pentagon that the F-35 will not be able to do the job that the A-10 (or replacement) can do.

    My thoughts exactly. The A-10 works and is effective. Simply make new ones based on the same designs and plans and make new parts for the ones in service when needed.

    1. With the A-10 wing replacement program, the A-10's "good to go" for another 20 years, and there are thousands mothballed in storage.

  4. I have a hard time to believe the OA-X "light attack" could replace the A-10 which is a Flying Tank".
    Why not a A-10 with new technology?
