NBC: Michael Flynn pleads guilty to lying to FBI in Mueller probe
Former U.S. National Security Adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty on Friday in federal court to a charge of making false statements to the FBI about his communications with Russia.
A two-page information filed Thursday in federal court lists a number of false statements that Flynn is accused of making about his interactions with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak in late December 2016.
It says that Flynn falsely claimed that he had not asked Kislyak on Dec. 29 "to refrain from escalating the situation in response to sanctions that the U.S. had imposed against Russia," and that he didn't recall Kislyak telling him Russia had decided to moderate its response as a result of his request.

WNU Editor: This is it?!?!?! Convicted because of a process crime (not telling the FBI the truth) .... which in the first place is why he was fired when he did not tell the truth to Vice President Pence. I expected more. Far more. With this conviction the next question is .... will he go to jail (which I doubt), and will President Trump pardon him?
Update: I am well aware of what ABC is reporting .... Flynn has promised special counsel 'full cooperation' in Russia probe: Source (ABC News). More here .... ABC's Brian Ross: Flynn Prepared To Testify Against Trump, Trump Family, White House Staff (RCP). But if this ABC report was true, Michael Flynn would not have been be in front of a judge this morning admitting to a process crime, he would instead be facing espionage charges. In his plea deal he has made it very clear that the only thing he has done wrong .... and which the court has agreed with .... was that he was not being truthful to the FBI. So why the ABC report and the media frenzy over it .... I think this is more of a reflection on what they are hoping for .... and not paying attention to the actual plea deal that was made between Michael Flynn and the Special Counsel.

Flynn pleads guilty to a process crime and the US MSM melts down. The Big Bombshell has dropped!
ReplyDeleteOh wait, maybe not.
Dow Jones rocked - down 300 points. Stocks right back up now, leading the rethink on this whole Brian Ross report. The same guy who immediately blamed the TEA Party for a terrorist bomb attack in NYC in July, 2012. That was bogus too. Its my surmise that this latest hype is timed to remove the imminent tax bill victory from the headlines. To remove Conyers, Franken, Pelosi, from front coverage. We have a new Trump scandal! Look at the shiny thing!!

RussInSoCal,
ReplyDeleteThe timing is interesting.
I also regret not posting a comment a few days ago that what the media now needs is a Mueller Commission media event, because that is what it is right now.

ReplyDeleteFlynn's flipped. He still faces 5-8 years in prison.

I hear 10 years.
ReplyDeleteHis Turkey lobbying case is still in the air.
Unless it involves treason or terrorism, the sentence cannot exceed 10 years.
DeleteIn both the inditements, and the plea, Flynn's son isn't mentioned.
It's not unusual for a Prosecutor to "hold back" charges. It's a smart way for the Prosecution to prevent a "double cross" on the stand.
BTW, the last guy to get such a "great deal" compared to charges, from a Prosecutor in the US, his testimony put away 16 Mob "bosses", uncovered 59 graves, and lead to $6.8 billion in asset forfeiture.
Yes, his son was involved in his father's lobbying efforts.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes .... prosecutors do make deals.
I just asked a friend of mine who is a criminal and contract lawyer in Montreal but who understands U.S. law very well on what is his take. He believes that there is no mention of the other charges (his lobbying work and his son's involvement in his lobbying work) because that is part of the "unspoken" agreement between Robert Mueller's Commission and Flynn to get today's guilty verdict.
I personally hope not. If you do the crime .... be prepared to do the time. There should be no free passes for anyone.
The way that Prosecutor's "get" the Big Fish, is by getting the "little fish" to roll over, in exchange for lesser charges and reduced sentences.
DeleteBTW, given the leniency of the plea, compared to the charges, Trump's going to have a hell of a time granting a Pardon.
