Korea Herald: Opposition leader says NK ICBMs designed for invasion, not regime protection

The leader of the main opposition Liberty Korea Party claimed Wednesday that North Korea's development of intercontinental ballistic missiles is intended to keep US forces at bay and invade South Korea for unification on its own terms.

Hong Joon-pyo made the remarks during a lecture for university students, renewing calls for the liberal Moon Jae-in government to craft a clear road map for resolving the escalating nuclear standoff with the regime led by the "unpredictable" leader Kim Jong-un.

"(The North's ICBMs) are designed to block the US' participation in a war when the North makes an attempt at unification by force," Hong said at the Busan City Hall in the southern port city, 450 kilometers south of Seoul.

"It is not for preserving its regime but for an invasion into the South," the hawkish conservative politician added.

WNU Editor:  North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un's father and grandfather always dreamed of reuniting the Korean peninsula .... and by force if necessary. Does Kim Jong-Un harbor the same thoughts .... even if his military is not capable of sustaining an invasion into South Korea? That is a question that I am sure many are wondering right now.

  1. The NORK's Nukes, missiles and Artillary are postured for defence, not invasion.

In a NORK/ South Korean conflict, even with out the nukes and CBW, there would be so little left of South Korea's economy, technology, people, to make using those other weapons worthless.

All of the NORK massed systems, are set up to make an Invasion of North Korea, or a "beheading strike", "too expensive".

Artillary and Gen 1&2 missiles made it "too expensive" for South Korea.

Gen 3 missiles and CBW made it "risky" for forward deployed US Forces in Okinawa, and "too expensive" for the Okinawans, too bad they arn't really Japanese.

Gen 4&5 missiles, with CBW and nukes, makes it "risky" for Japan, Australia and the United States.

The NORK's gave up on the idea of a "conquest" of South Korea when the South Korean population and economy "exploded" in the late '80's and '90's, and the South Korean Military vastly overmatched them in Tanks, Self Propelled Guns, Aircraft, Naval assets, everything but manpower.

They havn't given up on the Post War Soviet concept that if there is going to be a war, it's best if most of the fighting takes place on your enemies soil, not yours.
