SCMP: China aims for nuclear-powered aircraft carrier by 2025
Technology key to sending the vessels on long missions but many barriers still to be overcome, analyst says
China might have a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in the water by 2025 to bolster its maritime defences, according to the country’s main supplier of warships.
China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), which refitted China’s first aircraft carrier and built its second, did not specify which vessel it was referring to, but a statement on its website on Tuesday was the company’s first confirmation that a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier was in the works.
China’s two existing aircraft carriers use conventional oil power.
CSIC also said it was working on a new type of nuclear submarine, submarine artificial intelligence combat systems and a “comprehensive electronic information system” for maritime battles.

yawn... U.S. did this first when, in 1970? :)
ReplyDeleteoh wait, I did a quick check.. before 1960 LOL

So, 60 years after the US does it.. USA, USA, USA! :D
Oh at that time US population was 180 million.. current population of China: 1.4bn lol
China so amazing ;)
Well in 1960 the US needed the nuclear carrier(s)to support its world domination strategy whereas china didn't. Perhaps they wouldn't have had the ability to build one at the time, but now they do. Interesting timing, you know as America itself is on the cusp of total failure.
ReplyDeletethe point is not that we did it many years ago but that China is now a growing military and economic major nation, confronting us as we did Russia during and after the Cold War
ReplyDelete"....you know as America itself is on the cusp of total failure." Wishful thinking perhaps. This has been predicted a number of times. It still hasn't come to pass but a broken clock is right twice a day. You could finally be right, however, with the economy improving, tax cuts, regulatory reforms, increased domestic energy production, and a diplomatic process with North Korea that has allowed us some time and space to deal with the problem it may be a bit premature to write off America just yet. Many have tried to do so over the decades many, many times and all have been wrong to date. Wishing for a thing, in and of itself, does not make it happen.
