Russians Mock Putin's New Nuclear Weapons On Social Media

Newsweek: Vladimir Putin’s “Death Star’: Russians Mock President's New Nuclear Weapons in Meme Craze

Russian President Vladimir Putin prompted parody and ridiculing memes on social media when he used his annual address to show new nuclear-powered weapons and called for Russians to name them.

Putin showcased the new kit to both houses of parliament in an annual address, which, for the first time in 10 years had been moved to March. Russia’s upcoming presidential election in three weeks and the lack of any major campaign rallies made the event the first and possibly only major appeal to the Russian people Putin has made since his campaign began. While the first half of his speech focused on halving poverty, boosting the economy and increasing freedoms, the president quickly slid into familiar territory for the second half, when he began to talk about nuclear war and Russia’s military.

    1. Scott, when Obama announced his pivot to Asia he pissed off and emboldened two adversaries: Russia who felt the US overstretched and filled its vacuum in the middle east, and China that started to militarise the south China Sea in response. Historians will better understand it in a few decades. While Russia has made some advances in upgrading is military it is still far behind and only its powerful nukes ensure it a place as military superpower. It no longer is an economic major power. Certainly not culturally. And it has a shrinking, aging population. To stay relevant (Putin wants this for his Russia - remember he's a guy who called the end of the Soviet union empire one of the greatest catastrophes on Earth - he is oldschool and loves meddling in other nations' affairs..it keeps him in the news and with his powerful military he can be sure to make any country think twice to attack him. ..even neighbouring giants like china and India. However, both nations will overtake Russia in AI research. Hence Putin's love for doomsday and 'idefencible' old school weapons. His approach is flawed though. Even the most powerful nukes will be defeated by AI. So north Korea is if course china's way to nuke S as n Francisco / silicon valley area - the tech and AI research hub of the US with trillions of dollar value and its main tech competitor to China. The US knows this of course and has warned China. So ultimately, if north Korea will not disarm, risk for US becomes too big and it must attack. China will condemn attack in front of UN and pretend it does not know. Evidence will show up that they did know. China will get embargoed by many nations. US #1 ;)

      That's scenario 1 lol
