Another Privacy - Data Scandal Hits Facebook

Daily Mail: REVEALED: Facebook let SIXTY companies, including Apple and Amazon, have 'deep access personal data about users and their friends - and the controversial deals are STILL in place'

* Facebook allowed cell phone makers deep user data access, says report Sunday
* Companies such as Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Samsung were given access
* The data of users' friends was reportedly shared even if they had opted out
* Apparently contradicts what Facebook vowed after Cambridge Analytica fiasco
* Facebook defends deals as consistent with policy and say no abuse occurred
* Company has severed 22 of the partnerships since announcing sunset in April
* One expert said revelation is new and 'affects every Facebook user worldwide'

Facebook gave at least 60 device makers broad access to its users' information, potentially in conflict with what the company told Congress, a new report has revealed.

Many of the partnerships, with companies such as Apple, Amazon, BlackBerry, Microsoft and Samsung, remain in effect even after Facebook began to quietly unwind them in April, according to a lengthy report in the New York Times.

Under some of the agreements, device makers could access the data of users' friends, even if they believed that they had barred sharing, the Times reported citing company officials. The latest revelation affects every Facebook user worldwide.

I didnt read through it, but i would assume it has to do with the facebook messenger app. I know the messenger app on my cell phone uses alot of information they it does not require which is why i do not use said app often.

The nasty creepy part of Facebook/Google is even if you don’t use its flagship software, FB/Google has other software embedded thruout JavaScript to capture your information. They were avid conspirators with Obama to politically weaponize your information. Next time the doxxing will be worse.

I have two Facebook accounts under two different names. The name is all they have in the profile. I only use them to log into some sites like Huffington. Same with Twitter. Every so often Facebook locks me out because my "account has been hacked" and they give me a way to confirm my identity and change my password. They also push for me to complete my profile because 'the more information we have the easier is will be to verity you when hacking occurs.' I never respond to that message and a week later I can use my account again, i.e., no hack occurred they were just trying to get more information.

When I was using Bell Canada for my phone and internet service they pulled the same sort of trick. Several times I couldn't get into my Bell Email so I'd call technical service. After a little discussion they would put me on hold, come back and tell me to try it again and voila it worked. Then the techie would say something like "I notice that your contract is coming up for renewal in three months and I am able to offer you a new package if you renew now for only ...". Scammers.

I moved to another provider that uses Bell's DSL line and Bell plays havoc with the line. Every time it goes down two days later I get a marketing call trying to get me back. I left them 8 years ago and now without a contract so far I have had no price increases from my provider, not a dime and now my cost is half what Bell is trying to get me to pay to come back.

Bob. I use Bell. I know exactly how you feel. But their Fibe internet service is excellent (bandwidth is unlimited and speed is the best in Canada) .... and that is the only reason why I still stick with them. Their TV and cell service sucks .... and I cancelled those ridiculously overpriced packages only a few months ago.
