NBC: E.U. threatens firms that stop doing business with Iran over Trump sanctions
The move aims to signal to Tehran "that Europeans are serious" about trying to salvage the nuclear deal, an aide to the bloc's foreign policy chief said.
LONDON — European firms that stop doing business with Iran because of reimposed U.S. sanctions could in turn be sanctioned by the E.U., a special adviser to the 28-country bloc's top diplomat has warned.
“If E.U. companies abide by U.S. secondary sanctions they will, in turn, be sanctioned by the E.U.," Nathalie Tocci, an aide to E.U. foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, told Britain’s BBC Radio 4 on Monday night.
She characterized the measures as an attempt to "protect European companies.”
Tocci said the move was "necessary in order to signal, diplomatically, to the Iranians that Europeans are serious" about trying to salvage the Iran nuclear deal.

As an American I don't get this either. I long suspected the EU to be an enemy of the US. EU politician Donald Tusk all but said this straight out. Now this.
Iran is threatening genocide against America and they have the means to do it. Furthermore having Russia and China as allies makes them an even more grave threat. On the other hand, America has tried repeatedly to open negotiations with Iran. We even agreed with the crap sandwich of the nuclear deal to try and make things better. As Israeli intelligence has confirmed, Iran was not complying.
I would have expected such behavior as continuing to support Iran from countries like Russia and China. They don't claim to be allies and we have had traditionally hostile relations with them. Unfortunately, in the case of Russia, obvious opportunities for advancement were passed up in favor of exacerbating the conflict.
I would not have expected this from the EU. I suppose now we know the EU or at least its leaders are enemies of America. There leaders have chosen to side with a genocidal country against America. I don't see what else the leadership can be except an enemy.
