Bloomberg: Erdogan Warns Trump That Alliance Is at Risk as Tensions Climb

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned the U.S. that its decades-long alliance with the country is at risk after rising political tensions between the two nations erupted and helped stoke a financial crisis that shook global markets.

Erdogan, in an editorial Friday in the New York Times, cited Turkey’s cooperation with the U.S. dating back to the Cuban missile crisis and the Korean War as evidence of a long-standing partnership between the NATO allies. But he added that more recent disputes over a failed 2016 coup, the conflict in Syria and sanctions imposed this week against top Turkish officials and the country’s steel industry were straining that alliance to its breaking point.

Erdogan must think we want that relationship so bad... sure.. Turkey is importantly located, but that's all. Europe nor the US wants Erdogan. If we want anything, we like the Turkish people.. and we'd like to see them prosper.. but if Erdogan wants to be a dick, so be it.. the EU won't change for Turkey.. hasn't before, won't do it now. And with Erdogan in power, Turkey's attractiveness as a partner goes downhill rapidly, because it is HIM everyone has an issue with, not the Turkish people

Relations between the US and Turkey started to go poorly with Turkey's refusal to allow the US 4th division to attack Iraq from Turkey and that was in 2003. Many other problems developed since then such as Turkey hosting all sorts of anti-Israel terror groups, its support of ISIS in Syria via oil deals, obviously since 2015 its opposition to US efforts in Syria to defeat ISIS, Russian arms deals negotiated during the Obama admin, Gulan issues, Erdogan's constant stoking of anti-US propaganda in Turkey. Lots of stuff pre-dating Trump.

Trump seems to be the President to call Erdogan out and let him know that the US won't look the other way anymore. Also Turkey just isn't as important to the US anymore. It's value to Europe is huge, but the US? Not as much due to the fracking impact on US energy security.

Act like an Ally so we can treat you like one. Increasingly shrill sounds like Greece.
