ABC News Online: China cracks down on religion, crosses burned at Christian churches, Xi Jinping photos installed
China has intensified its crackdown on religion, with images emerging of crosses being burned and destroyed at Christian churches.
The crosses are said to often be replaced with objects such as the Chinese flag and photos of Chinese President Xi Jinping and former Communist Party leader Mao Zedong.
In one video posted on Twitter earlier this month, fire is seen engulfing the cross at the Chinese Christian Church in Xinxiang city, in the country's central Henan province.
Liang Zhang, 48, the pastor of a house church in Henan's Shangqiu city, said the state had been tightening its control over church operations.

As usual it will fail just like it did in the USSR. But there will be a great deal of suffering before it ends
China is showing all signs for getting ready for a war. And I don't mean that figuratively or to be dramatic. Just think about it. .
- massive military buildup over decades
- extremely bullish behaviour and outrageous territorial claims in the south China Sea, where they go as far as to build military islands and beat up fishermen who dare to fish in disputed waters
- the great firewall of China is used more and more to stop uncontrolled Information coming in..even VPNs work less and less
-"Reeducation" camps for Muslims and prosecuting Christians while putting up pictures of their dear leader, who, I remind you, is now a leader for life. They changed that last year..
- supporting north Korea with banned rocket fuel and even banned mobile missile launchers (which makes it very very hard to get all nukes reliably, as they might have up to 60 by now). Breaking of many more sanctions to keep the north Korean regime in their pockets. All while north Korea threatens to pull the nuclear trigger on us. Let that sink in. It was Kim who first threatened in videos released more than a year ago to engulf areas of the US in nuclear flames. They simulated it in videos. Civilian areas. Cities. This is who Xi supports and (!) arms with strategic weapons and equipment
-Xi mentioned in a speech to the military - which also last year had to swear an oath to him(!) directly to "not fear death". Xi told them that. But CNN ignored it. They rather use the airtime to call Trump a dictator, while China, a peer competitor who wants to replace the US as global superpower became the largest dictatorship on this planet at the same time. Instead they had stories on how cool Chinese skyscrapers are and other very pro Chinese ads and editorials. You'll also find the Turkish CNN (CNN Turk) to be very pro Erdogan... but hey, back to China
- .. I could probably add 20 more but typing on my phone. ..hope you get the point. China is not our friend. Do not be fooled about what's going on. This could turn into a that to survival if China doesn't change. And they seem to be accelerating what they're doing. Remember the same things happened before Nazi Germany plunged us into a world war. The quasi dictatorship, the military build up, territorial claims, propaganda and Reeducation.
Just please think before criticising Trump all the time. I get it, you hate him. But think. Please
you make a good deal of sense in your supporting evidence but just about all who comment at this site are very much supportive of Trump, though he seems not seriously concerned about China other than trade and tariff issues. Today though he said China interfering in our elections. I guess Russia remains an innocent in such interference though all our itel tells us otherwise.
Look. I'm not saying Russia is not doing all kinds of sh*t too. We have to deal with them too. But I'm saying that we should be really cautious about what is happening in China and understand the nature of China. China pretty much openly declared as goal to replace the US, and while you could say Russia did the same thing, I don't think they could actually do that. Their population is shrinking and projected to be only about 100-120mn by 2050. By then the US will be 400 million and China up to 2bn. Except for doomsday devices and bullying/invading weak countries (remember Georgia? That was messed up when Russia invaded. .but the Russians embarrassed themselves because it took them so long. That's when Putin started his military spending and military goals... He wants to be respected. .but he's not a dictator for life. He doesn't have reeducation camps. There's no nightmarish social scoring system. Russians are much closer to us (I'm european) than the Chinese. Russians are like the Klingons in Star Trek. But I think they would join the federation/the "west"(which now stretches around the globe. Japan and south Korea and Australia and even Singapore one could argue, have western values and a law system based on the English law).. but China is not like that. They do not see us as equals. China -in all their literature and movies -see westerners as evil or portray them as inferior/having inferior values. We don't truly think that Russians have inferior values. We make fun of the old Soviet economic system and teach the horrors of communism..but Russians agree with that too..what I'm saying is Russia is like an estranged brother who is a lumberjack/army vet drinking vodka and riding a tank for fun through streets. But I can deal with that. F*ck that's what I love about Russians haha but the Chinese system is scary, just scary. Once Putin is gone I hope Russia and the US/"the west" in general can get over this hysteria about Russians. Punish them where needed ofc, but realise that China will be the gravest threat and they're not like an estranged brother. They're being reeducated at this very moment to hate the west and us. And educated that we are invaders in the south China Sea.
