President Trump Is Rebuked At U.S. Senator McCain's Funeral

Susan B. Glasser, New Yorker: John McCain’s Funeral Was the Biggest Resistance Meeting Yet

Two ex-Presidents and one eloquent daughter teamed up to rebuke the pointedly uninvited Donald Trump.

Donald Trump’s name was never mentioned. It didn’t have to be. The funeral service for John Sidney McCain III, at the Washington National Cathedral, on this swampy Saturday morning, was all about a rebuke to the pointedly uninvited current President of the United States, which was exactly how McCain had planned it.

Of course, there were fulsome tributes to Senator McCain’s bravery and courage and public service, stark reminders of the torture he endured as a prisoner of war, and of the policies he fought for (and against) in his many decades as a Republican politician from Arizona. But McCain knew that would not be the headline from the grand service, whose many details he personally oversaw. This was to be no mere laying to rest of a Washington wise man, nor just another funeral of an elder statesman whose passing would be marked by flowery words about the end of an era. It was a meeting of the Resistance, under vaulted ceilings and stained-glass windows.

Update: McCain tributes echo with criticism of Trump (AP)

WNU Editor: Using funerals and eulogies to deliver a political message is not acceptable in my book. In every funeral that I have attended, it is God’s love that fills the room, not hate and animus for a person who is not even in attendance. But .... this is what U.S. Senator McCain and his family wanted, and those among America's elite who hate President Trump were more than happy to participate.

You have 309 blog entries in 2007 for this blog. No doubt you were studying US politics long before that. With studying China, the US and so many other things, you may have missed this.

    "For Paul Wellstone"
    "We will win, ..."

There is a sickness. Leaders observe the proper forms, but they are not sincere.

Three funerals Wellstone, Aretha Franklin and McCain turned into political events.

Probably Ted Kennedy's funeral as well.

    - Funny how Trump can be called a NAZI and have a Jewish son-in-law.
    - Funny how Obama and Clinton can meet and greet racist Louis Farahkhan and nothing happens.
    - Funny how George H.W. Bush rehabilitated Bill Clinton's image by inviting him to go with him for the Indian Ocean Tsunami relief. Meanwhile any national level Republican is reviled and denigrated, if they seek the presidency. Then they kiss and make up.

    - Kabuki theater.
    - As kabuki as U.S. Army Special Forces Colonel William Stuart of Die Hard II?
    - Washington Generals versus the Harlem Globe trotters <- People use this last analogy a lot. Wonder why.

McCain was exceedingly stupid, vain or something. He'd run for president the MSM reviled him. He disagreed with the Republican position and the press adored him They did this to him more than once and he still fell for it.

They shut out Trump, while the economy is strong, they just make Trump stronger. Trump is hated by all the right people, which makes him popular.

It is useful to study the politics of the late Roman Republic. There were 2 factions. The Optimates and the Populares. Politicians would switch factions. The leaders were mainly of the senatorial or equestrian class. People could switch parties and people still ate it up. The more things change the more they remain the same.

So Democrats lined up to accuse Bush of being a wear criminal pushing grandma off a cliff and being for dirty air and water. A decade later he is breaking bread with them as if nothing happened. GWB is passing candy to Michelle Obama and and she accepts it no questions asdked. TheAll star wrastling poltics is disgusting.

  3. Tarted up Victorians of Haight Ashbury. Just don't look along the sides of these brightly painted architectural frauds; you'll find the plainest windows and siding ever made by man.
Indeed the swamp. A moral swamp.

Liked your post, anon. I feel your disgust and outrage.

    1. No, Roger - no! Bad,Roger. Don't think. At least don't express your thoughts publicly. You might get fired and get called a fascist, racist, entitled man for calling out anything the left does. It's not safe, Roger. Repeat after me:
      Obama: awesome. Inspring. A saint.
      Trump: a fascist. A traitor. A pig.

You can do it. I know you can. Good luck

  4. Using funeral for politic is disgusting, of course, but what can we expect from our politician? Especially when the White House is in the hand of a non politician...?

  5. And cnn that called McCain all kinds of things when he ran against Obama is now pretending they were the biggest supporters of McCain and his legacy. Ffs when will the hypocrisy end? It's like there are consumers of this network who have no brain function and no memory. I know Fred watches cnn and I know their ratings are lower than Nikkelodeon by now, but how come there's still millions that by this crap. Who are these people?

  8. Were we lucky that McCain did not kill people like Captain Richard J. Ashby and Captain Joseph Schweitzer?

Did McCain keep his wings, because daddy and grandpapa were Navy admirals?
