Reports: U.S. To Host A Summit In January To Launch An Arab Version Of Nato

Gulf Business: US plans launch of ‘Arab Nato’ in January

The formation of the alliance has been complicated by a regional rift that has seen Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt cut ties with Qatar.

The United States is preparing to host a summit in January to launch an Arab version of Nato, according to reports.

The National cited US deputy assistant secretary of state for Arabian Gulf affairs Tim Lenderking as confirming the plans.

He told the publication he had been undertaking negotiations with countries over the last three weeks to lay the foundations for the Middle East Strategic Alliance (MESA).

“This stems from the Riyadh summit in 2017 where everyone agreed that the US and the GCC would meet on an annual basis…we added on top of that the keen interest on both sides in building MESA,” the official was quoted as saying.

The alliance would have a basis in security, economic and political areas, he said.

  1. Wow. Any takers on a bet that in May 2017 when Trump went on that trip to Saudi Arabia this was broached as a goal?

Where would Israel fit in a Arab NATO, for surely she will.

For those saying Trump is a dunce his FP achievements include bringing North Korea to the peace table and terminating its ICBM launches, its medium range shots over Japan and generally becoming more peaceful; ISIS destroyed; Iran blocked from taking over Syria; Iran deal on life support and Iran's economy as well; NATO members increasing their spending and Trump returning armor to Europe; NAFTA redone(hopefully better); Japan agreeing for the first time in history to negotiate a trade deal with the USA.

Obama's 8 year record looks non-existent in comparison.

    2. Actually he's spot on
Obama: messed up relations wit Israel, a rock solid partner, brought us the red line debacle, gutted the military, fcked up the pivot to Asia and emboldened China, didn't resolve nor try to resolve north Korea ("strategic patience")...so you better adjust your meds,Fred

    3. Oh and don't forget the red line debacle emboldening Russia and Syria. .. or how the EU almost dissolved during Obama times.. or how he told England to get back to the line in case of Brexit which many British hated and then voted to snub him and his arrogance. ..or remember the Iran nuclear Deal and the cash payment and how his admin advised Iran how to circumvent banking embargo, which almost amounted to international money laundering on behalf of the Iranians

    1. Yeah I agree.. if radicals take over their "nato" we could be looking at a world war. And it's not that unlikely that extremist elements will take over, judging by the history over there.
But then again, without organizationv chaos will remain and chaos is also currently exploited by radical elements. .if done right this could spell peace in the region. .if not. .well. ..parking lot time
