Robert Malley, Foreign Policy: 10 Conflicts to Watch in 2019

As U.S. leadership fades, authoritarian leaders are competing to see how much they can get away with.

In a world with fewer rules, the only truly effective one is knowing what you can get away with. The answer today, it turns out, is: quite a lot.

As the era of largely uncontested U.S. primacy fades, the international order has been thrown into turmoil. More leaders are tempted more often to test limits, jostle for power, and seek to bolster their influence—or diminish that of their rivals—by meddling in foreign conflicts. Multilateralism and its constraints are under siege, challenged by more transactional, zero-sum politics. Instruments of collective action, such as the United Nations Security Council, are paralyzed; those of collective accountability, including the International Criminal Court, are ignored and disparaged.

  1. I do not know how many (1/3rd, 1/2, 2/3rds) bad people, but there are many.

I had a relative visit South Africa recently. They met a mixed race tour guide and other people who were pleasant. I think they are in the minority.

The people around Capetown are more mixed than elsewhere and it was also the Bastion of the opposition party. The opposition will not accomplish much.

Desmond Tutu is utterly silent on the genocide, which makes him guilty. He is so old and godly(?) is he afraid of dying for speaking out?

I am happy that white South Afrikaaners are have a warm welcome in Russia. It will make Russia stronger and the US will go to war with Russia at some point, but I am still glad that they are there and safe for now. Do not expect to see anyone in the Beltway to consider white Afrikaaners as refugees.

The ANC will preach black racism and Pan Africanism. They are bad as the NAZIs. Worse in fact since they exist in the current day and one day there will be a reckoning. Having biracial children I do not appreciate one iota that the ANC preaches racism.

  3. You know it was the Russians that originally funded the ANC.

So the Afrikaaners are fleeing to the country that funded the people now oppressing them.

  4. "Did whites here and elsewhere complain when whites did to blacks"

Actually they did. I remember it. I remember the Sullivan principles.

I have also read about the Civil Warm where Boston Brahmins, who were vehemently abolitionist, decided in the middle of the Civil War that while slavery was very evil, they were not willing to die for it. Many of them did die. They followed through. But if given a chance for a repeat performance they would not have gone to war against slavery again. Then there were the thousands of extra judicial murders carried out by the Democrats after the war.

A lot of people have paid a high price.
