Navy Times: Senator: Chinese buildup in South China Sea like ‘preparing for World War III’
China’s ongoing military buildup on islands in the South China Sea is akin to “preparing for World War III,” the chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee declared on Tuesday.
The comment by Republican Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma came during a hearing to discuss the challenges posed by rising military powers China and Russia, a discussion that included ideas on how the people can better understand the threats to the world order that America built and has benefited from for decades.
While the U.S. military has a presence in and around the South China Sea and the larger western Pacific Ocean, Inhofe said America largely watched China lay claim to its rocks and islets before turning other reefs into fortifications, brimming with arms and stockpiled with materiel.

WNU editor: You do not have to listen to U.S. Republican Sen. James Inhofe and his warnings that China's military buildup is like ‘preparing for World War III’. The Chinese President himself has been blunt about this since last year .... Chinese President Xi Tells Military Region That Monitors South China Sea And Taiwan To 'Prepare For War' (October 26, 2019).
all superpowers prepare for major war
ReplyDeleteI think that if China entered into a war of choice and started to incur major casualties, the citizenry will howl. Yes I know the argument of State abductions/killings are large in China - goes on writ large. However soldiers are the proud, single heirs to their families. Millions of them and many well connected.
ReplyDeleteIf China did invade Taiwan, they'd become a global pariah. Trade would cease with the US. Every neighboring Military would be on war footing. Likely an oil blockade.
If the US holds true to our commitments - and I believe we would under this President - we would enter into "armed conflict" with China.
It would result in an underwater turkey shoot that would render PLAN inoperable. Not to mention the airborne turkey shoot over the strait. The man-made islands would be saturated with bunker busters and torpedoes. Liquefaction time. Coverage of both the invasion force and the and their man-made islands is too far a stretch for PLAAF.
Europe will sit on there hands and try to ignore it for as long as possible - until Chinese pricing and delivery schedules start costing them money.
And everyone right now should be hardening their networks against mass cyber attacks that will surely occur. Prepare for ground-based/space-based attacks Western satellites (no GPS, no internet, no phone). It could escalate to nuclear war, as WNU often suggests. EMP weapons are a first choice for China. Wacky fun!
SPACE,
FORCE,
R,
Hehe again....we've been over this ;)...casualties on Chinese side will be tolerated for longer. Not gonna change my mind on that :p
DeleteWell, China is more than a communist system, that's a mix of Communism and Nazi one. That's hard to predict what a "thing" like that will do. The best way is to hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. The problem is we have to catch up from the Obama era and go forward as fast as possible to have our edge back. Huge task!
ReplyDeleteChina cannot afford to start it .they're hopelessly surrendered with nations from Vietnam to India to Japan ready to pounce on them to settle old bills. On top USA..on top NATO...forget it..it's not gonna happen or half of China will be dead within half a year
ReplyDeleteLori,
ReplyDeleteI hate your question.
I hate the way you phrased it so succinctly.
I hate it, because you may very well be right.
I do not want the war, but I won't run from it. I'll fight it.
Looking good grief
ReplyDeleteThere's no pictures where are the children of peace
ReplyDeleteI too would fight it but have heel spur
