BBC: Venezuela protests: Maduro rejects calls for fresh elections
Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro has dismissed calls for new presidential elections amid fresh protests against his leadership.
In a show of defiance, he insisted his victory in polls last spring had been legitimate.
Opposition leader Juan Guaidó declared himself interim president last week, prompting an escalating power struggle.
In an interview with a Russian news agency, Mr Maduro said he was prepared to hold talks with the opposition.

Looks like China convinced north Korea to play hard ball and make Trump look bad.
ReplyDeleteXi must have promised Kim Jong Un quite a bit of cash and securities. After all he always wanted to have a nicer yacht.
The question now is this: Trump clearly and openly played on the North Korea front needs to decide on how to proceed... send a message to weak and you lose credibility and might also lose the next election (as Democrats also deny him the wall)...send a message to strong and things might actually escalate beyond message sending. It certainly must be more than tariffs. I guess Trump will evaluate the situation and take his losses there. He can't fight on all fronts and his base cares less about north Korea than eg about the wall or Venezuela failing further and causing another even bigger caravan..
It's funny how north Korea, China, the Democrats and Russia want Trump gone.
But hey. Don't mind me. Cnn will tell you who to vote for. :) they already declared Howard Schulz (the Starbucks creator and self made billionaire) to be the next antichrist. An egotistical maniac who might destroy the country by running for president and making Democrats lose and get Trump reelected. Democracy on the left: don't run against us, or else!
