Liu Zhen, SCMP: ‘Time for tougher deterrence from China’ as US steps up patrols in South China Sea
* Chinese analyst says American forces should have to think twice before going ‘too far’ with their activities in the contested waters
China should reinforce “deterrence facilities” in the South China Sea as the United States and its allies mount a bigger challenge in the contested waters, a prominent Chinese specialist said.
“Tension in the South China Sea will rise in the coming year so we must deploy some defensive facilities that are able to overawe American warships entering nearby waters,” said Wu Shicun, head of the government-affiliated National Institute for South China Sea Studies.
On the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan on Friday, Wu said the US would step up what it called freedom of navigation operations in the area with more frequent and wider-ranging manoeuvres this year.

WNU Editor: In the meantime China is publicly telling everyone that they are going to expand their presence in the South China Sea .... China envisions an ‘island city’ in South China Sea (Asia Times).
China can talk a lot, but during Trump's presidency you will see a decline in China. Their military spending is down, US is up. Their economy is -way down-, US is up. The market correction for the housing bubble still has to hit China - this is long, long overdue and will wipe out trillions in China. My guess is Chinese government is currently pumping in billions to keep the bubble away, but with the slowing economy, tanking house prices and tanking demand for offices, they cannot last forever. The market correction will come and once it comes, you know Chinese currency savings will be depleted and it will wipe out perhaps another 20% of the economy. China is no longer overtaking the US - as was predicted by CNN for twenty years, they were utterly wrong on that and everyone seems to forget about it. I don't. In 2000, CNN urged everyone to learn Chinese because by 2020, we all will speak it anyways. THink of that. It reminds me of "no path to victory" they said about Trump's presidential campaign. Again and again.. but lets not talk about cnn, I think we will soon enough see some of them in court and hopefully prison for treason. But in any event, China can talk and talk but under Trump we see them fail and fail badly. Embarassing to watch. Plus their strategies lead them to be completely isolated in APAC. And they will run out of money for their vanity Chinese belt/silk road 2.0 project. Xi will not serve for life, that's for sure. So there will also be a lot of "corruption scandals" in China (that's code for getting rid of political opponents there).. you will see a lot of Chinese billionaires trying to leave..millionaires would be stupid to stay in China, or keep their money there.. investment is leaving rapidly too.. in my industry last year already 50% left and this year is too early to tell, but think it will be another 10-20 or even 30%. This all happened under Trump and if he gets reelected, the Chinese dream of dominating the world dies with it, at least for a very long time, because the US economy is now twice the size of China - and that's BEFORE market correction, before the housing bubble and before taking into account that the Chinese gov likely amped up their economic data by up to 30% (which satellite pictures showed, as you posted here before)..
ReplyDeleteSo yeah..China is desperate for the world (and CNN haha) to keep buying their story, their pipe dream. And they will use A LOT of bullying in Asia this year to keep everyone in line, but the knives are out for China and it needs to thread carefully or it will backfire on a world stage.
I think the only way China can overtake the US and ensure their "China dominates the world" plan is by either killing Trump, and/or by using North Korea as a proxy war. As others have pointed out, the US missile defense is terrible. It can maybe - with luck - intercept 50% of a low number attack (think of 2,3,4 nukes being sent - half of them might get intercepted, the other half likely hits). North Korea has up to 60 nukes. Even if they only get to launch say 5-10 using their mobile launch platforms (provided by China), you can rest assured about 2-3 will hit the US. That's almost guaranteed. Targets will likely be on the East Coast (as they cannot reach the west coast), and perhaps Kim - in his death struggle - may want to target Guam and or Japan. Either way, China may talk up Kim and make him paranoid and/or tell him they will protect him. Or give him money to do it (it would be worth trillions to China). And Kim could live his life in China, his family would be protected. To you and me this of course doesn't make sense, but to a desparate, paranoid and borderline psychopathic man like Kim, this way out might be appealing. And if the US gets hit by a North Korean nuke - e.g. San Francisco / Silicon Valley area at the east coast, trillions will be wiped out immediately, much of the tech the US relies on will be gone, many of the tech pinoeers will be dead. It would be a devastating blow to the US, taking decades to recover, during which time China could easily press ahead and overtake the crippled US. China's AI systems would dominate the world, and the entire western way of life will be changed from freedom, to living as slaves/second class citizens under Chinese rule.
ReplyDeleteI am sure Chinese are thinking of it.
Under Trump, and if they do not do something soon, the Chinese dream (now a pipe dream) to rule the World will die, and very publicly and embarassinly so. Just one nuke from North Korea, and we can rename Earth to ChinaLand. It must be tempting.
But it's more likely that China will just try to get rid of Trump. Anything they can leak, without it looking like coming from them, will be considered. The Chinese obviously know how much lefties, cnn and msnbc hate trump -- I expect a lot of unverified, salacious material to appear once the 2020 re-election campaign nears its end (and if there is a strong democratic candidate)... the Chinese will try anything to make it happen. Trillions and trillions are on the line, quite literally - not only because Trump's demands (which are in the hundreds of billions each year and make about 3-5 trillion difference over a decade, but also because how it impacts their economy, slows everything down at this crucial time when they need money to fight off the housing bubble).. IF they however get caught - which is not likely - but if they get caught passing on intel or fake info about Trump -you can be certain that Trump's revenge will be painful. The Chinese too don't know how to fight Trump, as he has more energy than 20 of their Xis combined. But they are thinking of what to do, the trillions of incentive will guarantee that
