If this post in Watts Up With That? is correct, an inadvertent, serendipitous scientific discovery is responsible for reshaping the modern world of geopolitics to America’s advantage – and nobody noticed.
Fracking is usually credited with being the critical technology for the reshaping to which I refer: the rather sudden conversion of the United Sates from a huge net energy importer to (currently) self-sufficient, and clearly heading toward a major net energy exporter. This is far more than a simple balance-of-trade issue, through that is very important. It even transcends the millions of jobs and economic prosperity that has blessed the United States. We and our allies are now almost free of the economic extortion of oil exporters, that started in 1973 with the first oil boycott, gas lines, and soaring prices.

I didn't know about the satellite angle to fracking but the US has invested in lidar and hyper-spectral imaging from orbit for decades, maybe that was the technology used by the volcanologists?
In any case the other angle is the speed of the US production, quite incredible, in just about 5 years the US oil and gas production has exploded to world wide leadership.
Shale oil as a bountiful source isn't new, the Carter Administration founded the Synfuels Corporation back in the late 1970's to produce oil from shale by using giant rock crushers and heaters to cook the oil out. Reagan killed that corporation a few years later because it was unproductive at oil production and very effective at wasting money.
And the Democrats want to stop it all. Think about what's happening. Who is really working to make America great and who is working for Russia -- stopping fracking would be like 10,000 blowjobs for Putin. We need to turn this around and INVESTIGATE DEMOCRATS!
The Appellations?
That should be corrected. Is the WUWT poster a real poster? I love WUWT, but who writes "The Appellations"? Maybe we are getting zoomed.
None of the processes that created oil in the 1st place have stopped. My only worry is that we can extract more than can be replenished. It reminds though of the Ogallala Aquifer was supposed to be tapped out 20 years ago, I have heard no complaints from relatives. Maybe oil is the same.
