Will The U.S. Launch Military Operations In Venezuela?

CNN: Pompeo says military action in Venezuela 'possible'

Washington (CNN)Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reiterated Wednesday that US military action in Venezuela is an option in the wake of this week's violent protests, despite military officials and experts casting doubt on the prudence of such a move.

"The President has been crystal clear and incredibly consistent. Military action is possible. If that's what's required, that's what the United States will do," Pompeo said on Fox Business Network. "We're trying to do everything we can to avoid violence. We've asked all the parties involved not to engage in the kind of activity. We'd prefer a peaceful transition of government there, where Maduro leaves and a new election is held. But the President has made clear, in the event that there comes a moment -- and we'll all have to make decisions about when that moment is -- and the President will have to ultimately make that decision. He is prepared to do that if that's what's required."

WNU Editor: I doubt that the U.S. military will be launching military strikes in Venezuela anytime soon. But the Washington and U.S. media narrative is that such operations may take place very soon (see links below). Why the narrative? To put pressure on President Maduro.

Update #3: U.S. intelligence operations are underway right now .... U.S. military focused on gathering intelligence on Venezuela: Dunford (Reuters). As for what the CIA and other intelligence agencies are doing, we can speculate on that.

  1. WNU,
I believe they are all very active. The next logical step would be a US air and sea blockade. Of course this begs the question of whether Russia, China, Cuba, or Iran would fly in a jet liner daring the US to shoot it down. That is a question for the near future, but all of this does expose how far out Venezuela is from these countries (except Cuba), and their vulnerability. If China or Russia do respond look for it to be in Europe or Asia respectively.

    1. No, a blockade is not a declaration of war, it may be taken to be one, but it is not in itself. See the naval blockade of Cuba in the early 60's.

  13. I am truly tired of answering stupid people who fail to look things up but spend their time with childish comments:
Japan attacked us. that was an act of war and no they did not declare war. Germany shortly after Pearl Harbor declared war on us (though that day they did not attack us)
Next: Here is not just where you will find that Zero Hedge is right wing, but a long list of unreliable sites...you will have to do some reading, but put aside your playing with yourselves and work your way through it, though there may some long words that might cause you problems.
and now, dear girls, I bid thee a good night and happy dreams

    1. You Squirrel made the statement about Zero Hedge, nobody else. The burden of proof my friend is on YOU nobody else. Regardless of whatever you just said there is a difference between an act and a declaration of war. You are not even good at running away, though you should be as much as you do it.

  14. Doubt it, but if anyone in the government is seriously thinking of military action in Venezuela needs to remember how much Iraq and Afghanistan ate up our resources. We have a huge deficit and debt with a VA that is struggling to do anything. We need to fix these major issues before taking on another huge task using our military.

  17. That list is weird. I know Politico has a rep for their bias, which is obviously denied as conspiratorial thinking by their supporters. But I would like to see THEIR rank/tags alongside all those other sites. It's odd to create that list and exempt select sources from that same scrutiny, especially if the data shows how squeaky clean they are. Why not have a complete list of everyone if the methodology is so secure?

Anyway, I wonder what they found "conspiratorial" about zero hedge. Does ZH go too far in perpetually screaming that the end is nigh for finance? That's gotta be the only thing I would really say ZH does that could be considered "conspiratorial".
