Daily Mail: Riot police clash with protesters in Hong Kong after activists break into parliament building and unfurl colonial flag to protest government 'tyranny'
* Protesters blocked roads in the financial hub this morning and stormed its parliament, prompting clashes
* Other protesters were pepper-sprayed and beaten near the site of the government's flag-raising ceremony
* Organisers say 550,000 people marched through the city in a separate peaceful protest against the bill
* It is the latest unrest over an anti-extradition bill caused by fears liberties gained under UK rule will be lost
* Hundreds of officers wearing gas masks and shields, charged demonstrators with their batons drawn
Hong Kong riot police launched an operation in the early hours of Tuesday morning to seize back the city's parliament after it was stormed by protesters, firing tear gas and baton-charging lines of demonstrators in actions supported by the Chief Executive of Hong Kong.
Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam came out in defence of the police and quashed the demands of protesters calling for the release and amnesty of fellow radicals by saying that 'the rule of law is something of paramount importance in Hong Kong'.
She added at the press conference, that started at around 4 am local time, that the protesters seizure of the Legislative Council building was 'extremely violent', all while refusing to say that the Hong Kong Extradition Bill will be withdrawn.
She made a distinction between the 'peaceful and orderly' marches on Monday and drew a contrast with those that took place today.
