U.S. Senate Confirms Mark Esper As US Secretary Of Defense In A 90-8 Vote





FOX News: Mark Esper sworn in as new secretary of defense

Former Army Lt. Col. Mark Esper was sworn in as the new defense secretary during a brief White House ceremony Tuesday, making him the first permanent Pentagon boss since James Mattis resigned last December.

Esper, who served 10 years on active duty and 11 years in the National Guard and Army Reserve, was Acting Secretary before his nomination, and Patrick Shanahan had been Acting Secretary prior to that.

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito administered the oath of office.
