AFP: US approves $3.3bn sale of anti-ballistic missiles to Japan

Washington (AFP) - Washington approved the $3.3 billion sale of anti-ballistic missiles to Japan Tuesday, following close behind a series of new ballistic missile tests by North Korea that could threaten the US ally.

Japan will buy up to 73 of the Raytheon-made SM-3 Block IIA missiles, which are designed to be fired by the ship-board Aegis system to intercept incoming ballistic missiles, the Pentagon said.

The sale came as North Korea is expanding its offensive missile capabilities, having proven over the past two years the ability to launch medium- and long-range ballistic missiles, potentially nuclear-tipped, that could hit both Japan and the United States.

WNU Editor: This is a message to both China AND North Korea. But the Chinese are going to be sending their own message soon ....  China to show off advanced nuclear weapons in National Day parade and ‘send message to US about capabilities’ (SCMP).

Deutsche Bank told a federal appeals court that is has some Trump-related tax returns; Trump promised to pardon any official who breaks the law in order to get his border wall built by the 2020 election; children born to some U.S. military members and government employees working overseas will no longer automatically be considered United States citizens; and voters say the fundamental values of the United States are being tested in the 2020 election.

  2. As seems to be SOP, the Chinese government has again ignored the agreement and treaties they signed in the past. This time the island creating in the S. China Sea. They have no one to blame but their own bullying behavior for their economic downturn and the current arms race their island building has created.

  3. Your comments are not clear, anon 6:31PM. Perhaps a link to a story that you didn't write would help. I am interested in the second part of that list of charges you have lumped together. That would be "Trump promised" to "2020 election". The rest doesn't interest me so please don't bother with it unless you want to.

    Awaiting your educational[?]link,

The Squirrel is back! Actually judging the quality of comments he's been back for several days. Still looking for that magical elusive acorn. Unfortunately because of his secret work it's difficult to tell it's him........ until the second word of his comment.

  4. All we seem to be doing is countering Chinese offensive missile systems with defensive ones. As WNU has repeatedly assured us that any kinetic war between the US and China has the heavy probability of going nuclear - It’s past time that Japan has some offensive ICBM’s of their own. South Korea as well. The US nuclear umbrella can only be stretched so thin. And a real possibility of its use being stopped by some future president unable to make he call.
