The US may have a military budget that far exceeds that of Russia, but it doesn’t matter since the Russian military is there to defend the country, not attack other nations, the Russian defense minister said.
Russia’s military budget received a hike a few years ago for a massive rearmament program, but has been rolled back in recent years. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute estimated Russia to be the world’s sixth biggest defense spender in 2018, behind the US, China, Saudi Arabia, India, and France. Meanwhile, the Pentagon has been showered with money under the Trump administration, dwarfing other nations’ military budgets.

If the U.S. attacks Russian territory with carrier-based aircraft then the exchange will already be at the nuclear tipping point.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is that limited war between super-powers is not realistic and the majority of the hypersonic missiles currently being constructed are meant to carry nuclear warheads, not penetrate a flight deck.

DeleteLook, most people don't want to die. That's what MAD implies. Not just you due. But pretty much everything including thousands of years of civilisation.
To give people in command more time, instead of launching thousands of nukes, it is commonly agreed to move away from escalating theaters towards cold proxy areas.
Example. .say for whatever reason US Nimitz is involved in a shootout with some planes and missile batteries located at point X. The theory goes that in case Y,you move (after retaliation) away from point X to point A. Ie instead of increasing arms devastation you change locality, which gives a bit more time and maneuverability (externally but also internally), and gives room for signalling.
BUT point taken. If hot heads prevail on all sides or pride takes over there's no stopping. That's why I always say, and have said here before, do not taunt your enemy. Do what you have to do. Take no joy in it and move on. Keep it rationale. Keep it professional. Do not insult the losing party. Never add insult to injury. People who do have no idea about the human psyche and should not be in command
