Erin Handley, ABC News Online: As coronavirus COVID-19 spreads, how are Italy, Iran, Korea and others dealing with the outbreak?

The Australian Government says it is "pandemic ready" but warns "no country is immune" as coronavirus hotspots continue to crop up around the globe.

Only two months from the first reported case in China, the death toll now stands at more than 2,700 and there are more than 80,000 recorded cases of the COVID-19 virus around the world — although the vast majority of cases and deaths continue to be concentrated in Hubei province's Wuhan.

Following on the heels of other nations, Australia imposed a travel ban on China with some exemptions despite the World Health Organisation warning such measures would only contribute to "fear and stigma".

Was CommuNAZI off the mark? I think not. So Fred wants something. He wants private property from some one or some group and does not want to pay full freight. He wants to pay pennies on the dollar. So that someone or group will have more bills to pay than renumeration that they get for their efforts.

In communism that is called a square deal and Fred is good with it.

A way for it cost whatever the government wants it to cost (if for only for a short while) is for the government to pay for all costs for development. I guess if you do not work for the research side of a university, you do not know or care about patents and patent law.

Everything comes off patent after 20 years and there are only so many ways to put chemicals together (But why study math; even 6th grade math?). Soon everything will be off patent. "Me too" drugs are not necessarily better than the original. The original is off patent, whereas obviously the "Me Too" drug is not. I do not know why Democrats cannot figure these obvious things out.

Is it quicker over the long term for a private industry to come up with new drugs or is faster to rely on government labs? Note NASA is still trying after 15 years to develop the next generation of parachute.

Fred wants to upend patent law for a weak virus that has not killed anyone in the US and has a death rate less than the flu. We are not sure what the death rate is in China. The might just be using the corona virus outbreak to round up dissidents, disgruntled and Uighurs. Junior is disgruntled? Round him up. Roundup his parents. No one left to protest or complain. Blame it on the corona flu. Got an iman who is problematic. Round him up and his followers. Now the remaining Uighurs are docile. Keep the ovens going. Is that happening. Do not know for sure. But consider Xi taking a risk, "The Door in the Face" risk.

What I do know is that Fred does not know patent law, economics, numbers or human psychology well enough.

I am also guessing that Fred did not read the article I linked on vitamin D. I bet he did not read the abstract. For crying out loud the links were from Harvard and the government.

  3. I will note that Trunmp has asked for a cut in CDC fudning. He has not actually got a cut.

All revenue bills start in the house and have to be reconciled by the House and the Senate before going to the President for signature or veto.

Fred is mendaciously suggesting that a request is fait accompli. That is extremely dishonest. Usually the spending bills a president suggests to Congress are DOA.

Now I like to be honest and tell you that if the budget is not cut eventually deficit spending, trade deficits and servicing the debt will cut the budget in the not too distant future.

As a kid my father rubbed my nose in hyperinflation. Living overseas he asked me if I wanted my allowance in X dollars or Y pesos. Y Pesos at the exchange rate then was more than X dollars. He was honest and also told that the exchange rate would not always stay the same. It didn't. There was considerable inflation. I walked right into it.

I am very aware of currency controls, trade deficits, government debt and the like. You can believe in communism and unicorns; I believe in reality and gravity.

  4. America now has 60 cases. About 1/2 of those were people sent home from overseas quarantines.

So 60 cases prove fast spreads in America?

You don't need to worry about the global pandemic that's spreading rapidly, killing all those people, and creating economic turmoil, according to someone who knows nothing about it.

"The Coronavirus is very much under control in the U.S.A.," President Trump tweeted on Monday. "We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries. CDC & World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!" This was on the same day that U.S. stock markets plunged more than 3.5 percent amid concerns that the coronavirus was very much not under control.

The following day, the Centers for Disease Control warned that the coronavirus was headed to the United States, and the Dow Jones dropped more than 800 points. Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the CDC's head of respiratory diseases, said, "Disruption to everyday life might be severe."

Lesson: When Trump tells you not to worry, you should worry.

Not only does the president get things wrong, but his priorities are skewed. He doesn't worry about things he cannot understand, and he doesn't want us to worry about them either. This is a lot of things.

Trump wants people to be afraid when they shouldn't be afraid and wants people to be unconcerned when they should be concerned. The rapidly spreading global pandemic is under control. The plunging stock market is nothing to worry about. North Korea is now a pacifist hippie commune. Americans with pre-existing conditions won't lose their health coverage, notwithstanding the Trump administration's attempts to deprive them of it.

  6. If I were a well-off Democrat, I would be wary of the illegal immigrant maid, groundskeeper, handyman, restaurant worker, ...

These people are paid sub par wages and cannot afford decent health care , because nice Democrats purposefully stiffs them for the full wage.

  7. My spouse just flew to San Francisco. I am not afraid that they will get the corona virus, If they do get it, they are not going to die. Why, do I believe so? I know about co-morbidity factors. It is called science.

Meanwhile the mayor of San Francisco is politicizing the virus.
