Pratik Jakhar, BBC: Could North Korea handle a Covid-19 outbreak?
As the number of coronavirus cases in South Korea keeps on rising, attention is turning to how its impoverished neighbour might cope with an outbreak of its own.
North Korea is seen as highly vulnerable to infectious diseases, and its healthcare system ill-equipped to deal with them.
So far, the country claims to have no cases of Covid-19 - but some observers are questioning whether that can be true.
Experts say an outbreak in North Korea would be devastating for a population already suffering from malnourishment and poor health.

WNU Editor: North Korea does not have the medical facilities to cope with a coronavirus outbreak. So it will do the following. Close the border. Literally stop all traffic. Quarantine regions if the coronavirus infection does show-up. And for those who are sick, quarantine them where many with weakened immune systems will probably die.

"Can the US handle an outbreak?"
Zero dead to date (And the date is 2 months on so far)
To be sure someone will die in thew US. They will probably be elderly or in poor health with diabetes or some such co-morbidity factor or have been to China didn't know they had the disease until it was in its late stages or been on a cruise ...
Cruise ships are notorious incubators for norovirus and other communicable diseases. I would dearly love to go o a cruise every since I read a book on the Normandy and say a full length cutaway of the ship. But modern cruise ships are not as elegant as the Normandy. They are Golden Corral on a hull. The economics and industrial hygiene just does not work on modern cruise ships that look like sky scrapers precariously perched on a row boat.
Can you handle the difference in results between a communist country and a free market country?
we need to see how our populist president handles any of this. If globalism’s weakness is technocratic naïveté, populism’s faults are ignorance, incompetence and paranoia. Nothing about President Trump’s response so far instills confidence that he’s ready for the kind of crisis that Candidate Trump would have been quick to recognize and politically exploit. And the fact that Rush Limbaugh spent yesterday declaring that the coronavirus is no worse than the common cold, and that it’s “being weaponized” by the press “to bring down Donald Trump” — well, that doesn’t instill confidence that pressure from the right will force Trump to take the outbreak seriously.
"....will force Trump to take the outbreak seriously." That's the point. The mass hysteria fanned by the media is overblown to the point that the damage caused by the reactions to the "threat" posed by the virus far outweigh any damage the virus would have or could have ever caused.
POTUS gets this. Therefore I'd expect a calm measured response from him which is exactly what we're seeing. If, in the very unlikely event that this actually does turn out to be a crisis, calm measured responses are going to be what is going to solve the problems. The kind of sky is falling responses that we are seeing from the media a
Nd others now are not only counterproductive but make matters worse.
For what it's worth, while I think Trumo did the right thing recently by countering the hysteria with truth, he's been a bit slow on the uptake. Unfortunately this has allowed false narratives to gain s foothold. At this point I'm thinking that in order to handle this properly there may need to be some changes at the top at CDC.
"If globalism’s weakness is technocratic naïveté, populism’s faults are ignorance, incompetence and paranoia."
More babbling. You just threw out some trite, worn out generalizations to see if they would stick.
You are fucking pathetic.
How many people have died in the US? What is the death rate? On par with the flu or less. We are talking 2% or 3% or less. Who dies? Generally, people with co-morbidity factors.
"populism’s faults are ignorance, incompetence and paranoia."
That is an assertion and not proven. Anon the that out there as if it were fact.
You wrote a whole paragraph of about 4 sentences and one review it looks to be the work of the parrot. Now this is an assertion but we know it to be true based on past performance.
Parrot is illogical and not a critical thinker. Parrot could not ask why 5 times if his life depended on it. Parrot is that stupid.
Things Parrot should consider about Rush Limbaugh. He is elderly (69) and he has an underlying condition of lung cancer (And Liberals are crossing their fingers).
"Most developed world countries have accepted the chronological age of 65 years as a definition of 'elderly' or older person"
He is not worried about dying from corona virus.
Also, Rush does not necessarily follow conventional wisdom. I have heard this with hurricanes. He lives in Hurricane alley and so talks to experts. I remember where a hurricane was supposed to hit Florida and be 'the end of the world' and he said it was nothing. He was right. He did not base it upon chutzpah, but on an experts opinion. The into of the hurricane was blown off and the hurricane became disorganized and dissipated.
Another example was the Dubai Ports Deal. He went counter to his listenership and gave his reasons. You remember the Dubai Ports Deal? You still talking about it? No. Rush was right. 2-Shoes was wrong.
I am not worried about corona virus that some idiot Democrats will harm family members due to the corona virus scare. I have already seen sigh such bigotry among populists/Democrats/Knuckle-draggers.
