US Senator Bernie Sanders Promises To Cut Defense Spending By $1.215 Trillion If Elected President

Counter Punch: Bernie Finally Puts a Number on Cutting Military Spending

Bernie Sanders’ campaign has published a fact sheet on how everything he proposes can be paid for. On that fact sheet we find this line in a list of items that collectively will pay for a Green New Deal:

“Reducing defense spending by $1.215 trillion by scaling back military operations on protecting the global oil supply.”

Of course there is an obvious problem or mystery about this number, namely, isn’t it too damn good to be true? The full cost of military spending including numerous agencies plus debt for past wars, etc., is $1.25 trillion a year. While one might like to hope that Bernie is intent on leaving the military only $0.035 trillion a year, it seems highly unlikely that he means that. It’s highly unlikely that he even thinks of military spending costing $1.25 trillion a year rather than the $0.7 trillion a year or so that goes to the one agency misnamed the Department of Defense.

WNU Editor: You would think that such a policy position on the military would result in US Senator Sanders losing support among military members. But apparently not from what he was able to a few months ago (see below):

  2. Bernie is looking as if he will win the nomination, something I imagine the DNC is not happy with and the flunkies are really ganging up on him in the debates.

Even Bernie has been saying some things that have the potential to diminish his popular support, most recently the Castro/Cuba comments and now massive reductions in the military? Perhaps even he is now laying the ground work to generate public withdrawal of support, sufficient at least to allow the super delegates to do their thing. Looking for another payoff to bow out maybe?

  3. Bernie is like every other useless liberal suck.

If he can't get a seat on the politburo or central committer and if he cant get a comfortable job( life) as an apparatchik, he'll take the dive for filthy lucre.

We know Bernie cannot be an apparatchik. The boy literally has no skills as a carpenter or a politician (What legislation has he sponsored that got passed in the last 5 decades?).

Bernie reminds me a lot of you, Bob.

Yeah, I think you are right. We need to go the Merkel route. Train with broom sticks. They don't cost much.

Germany’s neglected soldiers forced to use broomstick as a gun

Those broomsticks are quite versatile like those liberal voters. When the Chinese fire a ballistic missile, the lib soldier can pretend he is Babe Ruth, wind up with trusty broomstick, and knock that bad boy out of the stadium back to China.

  5. Yeah, yeah, we should cut military expenditures and use broomsticks.

That Babe Ruth trick would really work, I saw it on loony tunes!

  6. 'Trump would have given us a health plan by now.'

How much border wall would be completed by now, if libtards would not be filing lawsuit after law suit to try to stop it?

What other legislative efforts might The Donald have completed, if it had been for no nothing Dims?

  8. I suspect soldiers are supporting Sanders to such disproportionate extent for the same reason they supported Trump the last time. They don't want to die in another stupid, useless war of choice, and they don't trust the other major candidates in that regard. Suspect Gabbard would've gotten much more from them (more than Sanders, even) if she had anything like a shot at winning.

  9. Soldiers I have met are not afraid of dying.

They are afraid of their lives being wasted. A good leader will husband their manpower and resources. They will ensure good foreign policy, training, research, procurement and doctrine. As such soldiers are less likely to go and more likely to die, if they do go.

I have not seen Trump start a new war. Trump has had several opportunities to escalate action.

Trump wants to bring material readiness of the military up to snuff. In which case people with military training in Russia and China would be less likely to start a war. They can count quality and quantity don'cha know.

With Bernie material readiness will be abysmal. Xi will see this and think "You only have to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will come crashing down ...". War will be guaranteed. You do know about material readiness and its effect on warfare? You are well read are you not?

To answer your other snide question. Liberals engage in magical thinking. Rule by them is idiocracy.

  10. How does our spending on "defense" compare to that of other nations?
what have we got in return?
How long have we been in Afghanistan and why?
what is our health plan like, esp now with pandemic perhaps in the offing?
    Our infrastructure?
    our education?
    our rising pay gap?
    parental leave?
our lobbies and reps vote in money that is wasted for their states to rake in money...socialism in hidden ways

  11. Don't look to Trump to improve anything of value to the common man/woman or America.

It is amazing that absolutely no one could have predicted that the genius who,

ran six casinos into the ground.
ran an airline into the ground,
ran a magazine into the ground,
ran a football league into the ground,

would eventually run the US pandemic response capability straight into the ground.

What is next? There is a very real possibility he will run the country into the ground.

  12. How long have we been in Afghanistan and why?
I bet you never heard of 911 too.

    our education?
    our rising pay gap?

Lots of well paying jobs going begging. Seems like a personal problem. You have anything you want to admit? Did you major in mid 13th century Japanese poetry?
I have seen a father & son plumber outfit go from a truck to a gas station converted to a store to a larger purpose built storefront in 10 years.
You didn't major in trans womyn's studies did you?

    Parental leave?
Heard of grandparents? It is why you don't shit on your parents or children.

How does our spending on "defense" compare to that of other nations?
How does out gym membership compare to that of spending by the 90 lb weakling?
Do you want a Merkel Military?

our lobbies and reps vote in money that is wasted for their states to rake in money...socialism in hidden ways

You mean like after Nancy Pelousy pushed through Obama Care on the 11th hour of Xmas eve that Congress has their separate, better health care?

What about Nancy's Coca Cola stock that she made 60,0000 in?

  13. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_Shuttle

Trump's typical ineptitude and evasion of responsibility is all over it.

    .... and the Casinos?

Face it, Trump is a conman doing good for himself only. What has he done so far to earn your admiration, imprison children? Take money from healthcare to build that useless wall? Sorry, the wall is not totally useless. Everything has a use one way or another. Even you can serve as and excellent bad example of a human being.

  14. I looked up the Trump Shuttle.

As a kid I use to collect plastic airline wings that they gave out to kids. I wish I had kept them all. I don't have a one. They would make a very salient point.

You know with the exception of United Airlines and American, they all went tits up.

  16. Who said I was Christina. Just because I am aware of the Bible and can quote from it does not mean I am Christian. I can quote from the Talmud and Quran also. And I do.

You are not very logical Bob. Your responses are becoming more sluggish. You are not going Fredo on us too?

Well, I hope this makes you feel good. You are my favorite Fredo.

And like the other Fredo, please take time to study some statistics. I am sure you can check out a book from the library. We would not want you to succumb the the sickness of Fredo as much as your compadre in the NE.
