Bernie Sanders has praised Fidel Castro's 'massive literacy program', standing by comments he made praising the dictator's rule of Cuba in the 1980s.
The Democratic frontrunner and socialist, 78, defended the Communist regime as 'not all bad' during a wide-ranging 60 Minutes interview which aired Sunday.
During the interview, he told Anderson Cooper: 'We're very opposed to the authoritarian nature of Cuba but you know, it's unfair to simply say everything is bad. You know?
'When Fidel Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a massive literacy program. Is that a bad thing? Even though Fidel Castro did it?'

WNU Editor: If he is the Democrat nominee for President, he just gave up Florida (with its huge Cuba-emigre community) to President Trump.

Editor,
When I heard this, at first I had the same thought as you that he "just gave up Florida," however, upon reflection I would not be so sure. While it is true that Cuban immigrant population in FL will not support him, just how big are they numbers wise? I don't think they are that big number wise but due to organization and financial clout they have an influence that goes far beyond their size.
If Sanders is the nominee, the biggest issue for Democrats IMHO will not be the numbers loss in voters but the organization and financial clout that these people have. So, if Mr. Sanders can make up for the loss in numbers elsewhere, this shouldn't be a problem. Also, Americans tend to be leery of small groups that wield influence beyond their numbers. As such, I think it entirely possible that by fighting this group he can gain more support in terms of money, organization, and raw numbers of voters than he loses by alienating this group.
I do NOT want Bernie Sanders to be president and I am in full agreement with his critics on this one. The point I am making is that he will NOT be easy to defeat and anyone who assumes he will be easy to beat does so at their peril. Of course he, as with anyone else, can be beaten.
My best educated guess, at this point, is the DNC or other powerful and influential Democrats will torpedo Sanders's candidacy thus eliminating the candidate who has the best chance of actually beating Trump. To this I say, GO FOR IT!! BY ALL MEANS DEMOCRTS DO IT!! DESTROY SANDER'S CANDIDACY!!
Given the time now passed and the changes in Cuba over that time, the end of the Soviet Union I wonder if there aren't some Cubans in Florida that would welcome some level of normalization between the US and their home country. Perhaps with Bernie it will be time.
Given the time now passed (It is 1943) and the changes in Cuba (Germany) over that time, the end of the Soviet Union (Fascist Italy) I wonder if there aren't some Cubans (German Jews) in Florida (NYC) that would welcome some level of normalization between the US and their home country. Perhaps with Bernie it will be time.
I wonder if you'll ever run out of false equivalencies and pathological dis-honesty.
When did Cuba stop jailing people for political reasons?

Bob's dishonest nasal drip (Given the time now passed and the changes in Cuba over that time) that he passed for honest observation and discourse had a lot of falseness.
Soviet subsidies stopped in 1991. There were lean years. Then in 1998 Chavez threw the liberal bastards of Cuba a lifeline and the thing regime kept on chugging and thugging.
When has Cuba ceased to be a liberal nightmare? Name the year?
