Daily Mail: 'It's like a horror movie': Grim warning by mayor of Brazilian city worst-hit by coronavirus as bodies are piled up in refrigerated trucks after President Bolsonaro dismissed Covid-19 as 'flu'
* Mayor of Manaus in the northern Brazilian state of Amazonas said the situation is one of 'absolute calamity'
* The daily death rate shot up from 20-30 per day to more than 100 because of the coronavirus pandemic
* The pandemic has also reached extremely vulnerable indigenous communities in the state of Amazonas
The mayor of Brazil's worst-hit city has described the hundreds of coronavirus deaths in Manaus as 'a scene out of a horror movie' as bodies are piled up in refrigerated trucks and bulldozers dig mass graves at cemeteries.
Mayor Virgilio Neto said his city was 'no longer in a state of emergency but rather of absolute calamity' after the daily death rate shot up from 20-30 per day to more than 100 because of the pandemic.
The city has the highest death rate of any state capital in Brazil and the mayor fears there are more hidden deaths because people are dying at home without medical care.
The pandemic has also reached extremely vulnerable indigenous communities in the state of Amazonas, which is so huge it can take days of travel by boat to reach outlying towns and villages.

The headline story is by the Daily Mail? DM is part clickbait, part gossip rag, part papparazi reporting. It also includes hard-ish news.
ReplyDeleteThe DM story had few facts and none of those in context.
"Amazonas is one of Brazil's hardest-hit states, with 2,479 cases and 207 reported deaths"
Now the above line is almost 2 facts. Almost.
- Were there any comorbidities?
- What were the age groups?
- Some of the people at the funerals look kind of porky. So you have to wonder about their relatives.
- Being fat in the time of corona seems to be a very, very bad idea. It has certainly got my attention.
The only real fact that I was interested in was the 90% of ICU beds in use. If it is like a factory, when you reach 95% capacity, you want to expand your facilities. So 100% capacity will be reached in a week or two. And?
Well the military could set up some field hospitals to cover. Maybe Bolsanaro could ask the US to send some field hospitals? The US military has been doing medical and dental clinics in South America, SE Asia, and Africa for decades. It is a win win.
I do not see much of a problem. It is Manaus. If you were telling it was tearing through the favelhas of Rio or Sao Paulo, I would be worried. It is not treating through the favelhas of Manaus.
ReplyDeleteElected Democrat Leaders in high office are committing GENOCIDE!
They knew what would happen. They wanted a photo op. They probably killed people, who voted for them for years, but these unfortunate souls were expendable. Soylent Green is not such an outlandish thought, when you see how callously an elected Democrat acts.
New York health officials DENIED request from NYC nursing home where 55 patients died of COVID-19 to send its sick to the practically empty USNS Comfort and Javits Center
To cover up his culpability, Cuomo will prosecute the nursing home although he set up so many constraints as to make the problem intractable.
Intractable means unsolvable for those of you in Rio Linda or yahoos in the NE corridor.
Cuomo needs to be held in the cell they held Milosevic in, before standing trial in The Hague.
Cuomo is a WAR CRIMINAL!
