Business Insider: Fauci says 2nd wave of COVID-19 is 'not inevitable' in the fall
* Dr. Anthony Fauci has consistently warned of the lingering threat of the novel coronavirus and has acknowledged the possibility of a so-called second wave of cases in the fall and winter.
* But the US's leading infectious-disease expert added a shade of optimism to his prognosis in a CNN interview Wednesday morning.
"I'm feeling better about it as we go by with the weeks that go by and we see that we're getting more and more capability of testing," Fauci said.
* "We often talk about the possibility of a second wave, or of an outbreak when you reopen. We don't have to accept that as an inevitability."
* "Particularly when people start thinking about the fall, I want people to really appreciate that it could happen, but it is not inevitable. If we do the kinds of things that we're putting in place now ... we can prevent this second wave that we're talking about."
Dr. Anthony Fauci seems more optimistic regarding the chances of a "second wave" of COVID-19 hitting the US by the fall.
Fauci, the nation's leading infectious-disease expert and longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has consistently warned that the virus will linger and could come back strong in the fall or winter.
Such a pattern would fit with those of other coronaviruses as well as the 1918 influenza pandemic, which brought more damage in its second wave than in the first.
But during a CNN interview Wednesday morning, Fauci suggested the nation's ramped-up testing capacity was changing his outlook.

WNU Editor: Historically speaking second and third waves have been norm. Will there be a second wave with Covid-19? Considering the fact that this virus is running rampant in South American countries and other countries and regions, i.e. the Indian subcontinent, Yemen, parts of Africa, etc., I fail to see how this disease can be stopped in the fall and winter when the environment becomes conducive for the coronavirus to spread in the northern hemisphere. We will know for sure in about six months.
2nd or 3rd wave?
ReplyDeleteNot going to be as big as the 1st wave. Those people who were going to die form COVID are dead. Some more people are getting weaker from diabetes and other diseases and are new potential victims. Some people were just well isolated.
However, the system is primed this time. The treatments are better. Some people are now immune to COVID 19 making viral spread more problematic.
Hotspots like NYC won't be as hot. The liberal media is still covering for Andrew FREDO Cuomo, but there is only so much they can do. Andrew Cuomo, the Great Democrat, made it law that the residents could be put into nursing homes without COVID 19 tests. He also made it liberal law that if they had COVID the nursing home had to accept them. This won't happen in the future. Cuomo does not want to get sued.
Florida has a heck of am lot of elderly people. Look at The Villages
The Villages has a population of 136,396 people. Any deaths? Why not? They had a better governor than New York had.
"In March, Cuomo’s administration issued an order that allowed nursing homes to readmit sick patients without testing them for Covid-19."
