The Hill: Biden says he would use federal authority to mandate wearing masks in public
The presumptive Democratic nominee has made multiple public appearances donning facial coverings.
* Joe Biden said in an interview that were he president, he would use federal authority to make face masks mandatory in public spaces.
* This comes as the U.S. is experiencing a surge of new coronavirus cases.
Former Vice President and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has taken a hard line regarding wearing masks in public as a means to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Speaking with CBS affiliate KBKA on Thursday, Biden said that if he were president, he would use federal power available to make it mandatory to wear masks in public.
“I would do everything possible to make it required [that] the people had to wear masks in public,” he said.

WNU Editor: Canada is a country that has been successful in curtailing the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, and it has been done by using social distancing, closing the border, 14 day quarantines, and isolating the populations that are most vulnerable to this disease (i.e. the elderly and those with medical conditions). Masks have played a role, but not a critical role in stopping the spread.
"Role" not "roll".
ReplyDeletePhonetically you are correct.

Chicago is really, really trying very hard to be smaller than Toronto. The mayor is hard at work making sure gang violence soars.
Editor let me know if I'm wrong.Canada May have a stronger social fabric then the United States of America. The United States of America has a large individual streak. That is encouraged by some. And it's probably a major factor Why their cases are spiking and Canada Are not. Americans are just not social distancing.
ReplyDeleteThe masks have positive utility but are not the bea all/end all that we have been told they are. In the media/government push for this, there's something else at work here.
ReplyDeleteAs for businesses, most require it. I don't think they think it's really going to help. They just don't want to be out allot of money in the lawsuit if something goes wrong.
I would add in Montgomery County TX where I live we are doing fine at containing this. Unfortunately Harris County which is near us isn't fairing so well and if they're unable to get the hospitalizations under control this could start to affect us. In Montgonery County masks aren't required. In Harris County they are. Bexar, Dallas, and Travis counties the other three most affected counties require masks as well.
Obviously in America with our massive emphasis on testing our numbers will be much higher than other places. Less testing equals fewer positive results means better "containment." Where I live has gone all in with testing so I'm expecting a "spike" in cases!!
Good luck with that Joe. People should use masks but an executive order?
ReplyDeleteAnon (10:37),
ReplyDeleteLarge urban areas where people are in close quarters will make a difference in regards to a highly contagious pathogen as thhs one seems to be. As Canada doesn't have as many of these, naturally it's going to be easier to contain. I'd add that large urban areas naturally make containment difficult and in America at least the governments in these areas are generally incompetent making matters worse.
Anon (10:42),
Social distancing or the lack thereof may be a factor. The ultimate suoet spreader would have been the protests surrounding George Floyd where 10s of thousands of people gathered in close quarters. In Houston, with a few exceptions the protests were peaceful but event after event that went on for about two weeks had thousands in close quarters without any safely protocols and the authorities encouraged it even after they had brutalized businesses for months with the shutdowns!! A Trump rally or allowing a few restaurants to open at limited capacity would have been negligible compared to this.
Adding to the problem in Houston was 1.) many would have contradicted the virus at the protests then the extreme heat and humidity of south east TX drove people indoors enhancing the spread, 2.) while the authorities enacted brutal shutdowns on many while adding insult to injury by terrorizing them, they carved out numerous exceptions for themselves all while appearing to gloat over what they were doing to us and 3 ) after wrecking the lives of many they see the protesters being encouraged to do everything they were told not to do and punished severely if they did!!
Most governors had to be dragged kicking and screaming to reopen. They only did so because they kbeevif they waited even smother two weeks there'd be nothing left to reopen. Perhaps Canada's economy is innately stronger than that of the US and can better absorb a shutdown than ours can.
Needless to say, in such an environment, it's not a surprise many don't take anything our governments tell us seriously. As such, many wouldn't need warnings from them to social distance or wear masks.
ReplyDeleteBiden's armband around his mouth is missing it's swastika and I won't vote for anyone out of uniform. Solly cholly.
"People should use masks but an executive order?" The masks have a benefit but they're not the panacea we are told they are.
ReplyDeleteThe best approach would be to educate and go through the legislative process to do this. The need to resort to Jack boot of government to do this without so much as a discussion of the situation suggests another agenda at work.
"Editor let me know if I'm wrong.Canada May have a stronger social fabric then the United States of America. The United States of America has a large individual streak. That is encouraged by some."
ReplyDeleteSo much stupid and lying to unpack.
People are responsible for their own education (beyond high school) and effort, but individuals are very social.
Do you have a measure of social fabric? Do you care? If you cannot measure social fabric, you really don't care, You throw it out there like stinky red herring that snatched from your nether parts and thrown with great relish, because you are making the world more like your smelly self.
How about a measure of social fabric of membership or participation in fraternal or professional societies. Until the 1980s or so it was 'common knowledge' or put out by lazy news organizations that societies were introverted and not very gregarious. A little research showed that they were very gregarious within their own professional societies.
Do you see any economists her at this site? How abut other sites? Wow, they must be very introverted and not very gregarious. Or you you take a spin and look at Marginal Revolutions and find place chock full of them.
You know Americans are very individualistic and there is not social fabric. It is why no one travels on Thanksgiving and Christmas to be with family. In fact there are no movies that attest to it.
Maybe your real problem is that not enough people are flocking to leftist organizations that say "community. community, community" and have been certified with a blue check mark as being rotten.
Maybe Canada has done better because it has fewer international travelers, because it is an unimportant backwater?

For a backwater, Canada is sure a popular destination for Americans.
Perhaps She is doing better due to the fact She closed the border to "Don't Tread on Me"?
The number of US tourists to Canada increased 3.8% since 2018, reaching 15.0 million. This was the sixth consecutive year of growth since 2014 and the highest level since 2004. The number of US tourists to Canada remained below the peak of 16.2 million in 2002.
"In 2019, tourists from the United States represented over two-thirds of all international tourist arrivals to Canada. This share, however, continued to decline because the number of tourists from overseas countries has grown at a faster pace. Since 2000, the share of tourists coming to Canada from overseas countries has risen from 22.6% to 32.3%, while the share of those from the United States has fallen from 77.4% to 67.7%."
Judging by the "stinky red herring" regarding Canada, attended by the requisite right wing gas light, it appears the stupid provocations committed by the right (Bannonites/Proud Boys, Boogaloos, Bundyfundies and Aizanonyouses), and right light (dems, Trots, Lib elite funded BLM stooges) will continue.
This means for Canada to remain (relatively) "safe", said closure will have to remain in force indefinitely - lest the right achieve their goal of one big continental cluster-fuck culture war. Which, (not so) incidentally, will ensure the multi-trillion dollar fleecing/larceny project will continue unhindered.
The right and right light are alright with that. They're due for yet another Thirty Years War - and heartily believe the rest of us are too.
ReplyDelete79.62 million international visitors to US
18 million foreigners to Canada
The US has 4.4 times the number of visitors that Canada has.
It has 4.4 times the chances to catch stuff.

ReplyDeleteLess testing=fewer positives. Contact tracing is used to identify the contacts of those who test positive and trxt them. This is a very efficient way to raise both numbers of new cases and percentages of positive cases even though many of the newly identified cAes are asymptomatic or their symptoms are very mild and never would have sought medical help otherwise so they would've remained unknown. This situation is a win/win for power mad insane leaders who would keep us shut diwn indefinitely if they could!!
ReplyDeleteIt's no secret that governor Abott of TX like most governors did NOT want to reopen. They had to be dragged kicking abd screaming to do it. Today governor Abbott and his team scaled back the reopening and part of the logic was an increase in positive percent tests to above 10%. The strategies used to test via contract tracing and testing everyone in the prison system and other government facilities made it virtualy impossible NOT to exceed a greater than 10% positive number.
As governor Abbott didn't want to reopen the state and the "experts" were vehemently opposed to it, could this have been a dirty trick to ensure reopening failed? It looks as if this could be the case as the metrics used were/are impossible to achieve all but guaranteeing failure. I hope and pray I'm wrong.
As I have stated before, the countries who will fare the best through the pandemic and cone out best on the other side will be those who are best able to resist the urge to shut down segments of their economies. Thus far the US has performed poorly in this regard.
ReplyDeleteRussia Secretly Offered Afghan Militants Bounties to Kill U.S. Troops, Intelligence Says
ReplyDeleteThe bigger story is the cavalier use of executive orders. Since Congress can’t do anything but argue and investigate, presidents will use Exec orders more and this will lead us to a whirlwind of tick-toc. I’m just waiting for Biden to say he’d use an order to tear down the wall - LOL
ReplyDelete"Russia Secretly Offered Afghan Militants Bounties to Kill U.S. Troops, Intelligence Says"
ReplyDeleteMr. Easy finally figured it out. They had to send him a memo or singing telegram by a Playboy bunny, so he would remember. It has been apparent that Russia wanted us out of there, when they bribed Kyrgyzstan to kick the US out.
U.S. vacates base in Central Asia as Russia's clout rises - 2014
Between Russia making the US logistical footprint tenuous and aiding the the enemy and Pakistan providing secure basing for the Taliban plus support, the US does not need to be in Afghanistan. They are going to have to leave the nest and learn how to fly.
The sooner we do it the sooner Iran, Pakistan, China and Russia are at odds in that region. Out troops are behind enemy lines in Afghanistan and not many people in the Beltway or out of it give a fuck.
BTW Mr. Easy the topic was Biden, COVID, and EO's.
