Washington Post: Russian bounties to Taliban-linked militants resulted in deaths of U.S. troops, according to intelligence assessments
Russian bounties offered to Taliban-linked militants to kill coalition forces in Afghanistan are believed to have resulted in the deaths of several U.S. service members, according to intelligence gleaned from U.S. military interrogations of captured militants in recent months.
Several people familiar with the matter said it was unclear exactly how many Americans or coalition troops from other countries may have been killed or targeted under the program. U.S. forces in Afghanistan suffered a total of 10 deaths from hostile gunfire or improvised bombs in 2018, and 16 in 2019. Two have been killed this year. In each of those years, several service members were also killed by what are known as “green on blue” hostile incidents by members of Afghan security forces, which are sometimes believed to have been infiltrated by the Taliban.
The intelligence was passed up from the U.S. Special Operations forces based in Afghanistan and led to a restricted high-level White House meeting in late March, the people said.

WNU Editor: At the end of the Washington Post article there is an admission that the intelligence and data that they have received is still being evaluated. But what is more telling is that at the end of their article they quote former Acting Director of National Intelligence Rick Grennell, who would know if this story is true, calling the entire story bogus and a textbook example on how intelligence is politicized. So who is right .... the New York Times and Washington Post with their history of being wrong on almost every matter concerning US intelligence in the past few years (i.e. Russian collusion), or former Acting Director of National Intelligence Rick Grennell who has done more in the past few years to reveal how corrupt and politicized the intelligence community has been since President Trump's election. My money is on Rick Grennell.
Update: All Players In The NYT 'Russian Bounties' In Afghanistan Story Have Slammed It As Fake News (Zero Hedge).

ReplyDeleteSlave driver Jeff Bezos is a Democrat, who owns the Washington Post. WaPo is an independent newspapaer?
After the riots, COVID and Russia hoax and Ukrainian Hoax have failed WTF do you expect the Democrats to do? Give up? With the latest story I guarantee you that various arboreal fauna and fowl are happier than pigs in shit.
You have 100 or so communists marching on the St. Louis Mayor's residence. That is a just a small sample of what the Democrats will do to gain power.
Moscow will be a smoking hole, because Democrats will do it.
Here we go again...
ReplyDeleteThe Dumpocraps are at the point where they simply don't care if what they report is false, even if it is demonstrably so. They Simply. Don't. Care. They are a rotating mechanism designed to throw crap in any and every direction in hopes that one out every ten or so throws some of it will stick to something. THIS is what "our side" doesn't understand. If you are opposed to their agends ... They. Don't. Care. What. You. Think. About. Anything. All they want is control, and anything and everything they do is calculated to gain back that control. It matters not to them that the NYT, WAPo, et al, have lost all credibility, because as far as they are concernced, this is WAR, and they are in it to WIN at ANY COST. And, by the way, THEY WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER, STOP, unless, somehow, they are stopped. The sooner we understand this, the sooner we will (finally) understand the nature of what we're fighting against. For them, there is NO such thing as "truth" or "falsehood," only that which does or does not facilitate victory. Say hello to Globalism.
ReplyDeleteYep, 100% right.

ReplyDeleteTrump claims he never got the intel reports. If that is so, why has he not demanded an answer to why he was never given this material?
A person familiar with the move said Grenell will take a senior role inside the Trump campaign, where he will be involved in fundraising and strategy. It was not immediately clear what his title will be or whether he will work from the campaign’s Northern Virginia headquarters. Grenell was seen entering the White House on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after the Trump campaign announced its promotion of senior political adviser Bill Stepien to serve as deputy campaign manager.
While Russia has at times cooperated with the United States and appeared interested in Afghan stability, it often seems to work at crosscurrents with its own national interest if the result is damage to American national interests, said a former senior Trump White House official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive security assessments.
ReplyDeleteRevenge is also a factor in Russia’s support for the Taliban, the official said. Russia has been keen to even the scales after a bloody confrontation in 2018 in Syria, when a massive U.S. counterattack killed hundreds of Syrian forces along with Russian mercenaries nominally supported by the Kremlin.
“They are keeping a score sheet, and they want to punish us for that incident,” the official said.
Both Russia and the Taliban have denied the American intelligence assessment.
The U.S. intelligence assessment was said to be based in part from interrogations of captured Afghan militants and criminals, according to the newspaper.
ReplyDeleteRepublican Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, an Air Force veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, tweeted that "Russia is not a partner, and not to be negotiated with" and that Trump "needs to immediately expose and handle this, and stop Russia's shadow war."
Trump has sought to improve relations between Washington and Moscow and shares an unusually warm relationship with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
But Trump and his administration point to U.S. sanctions on Russia, arguing that he's been tougher on the country than previous presidents.
During a 2018 press conference alongside Putin in Helsinki, Finland, Trump, in a stunning move for an American president, refused to accept US intelligence that Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election, instead appearing to align with Putin's denials.
Last month, Trump said he wished to invite Russia to the G7 summit, despite Russia's suspension in 2014 from the working group of leading industrial nations for its annexation of Crimea.
Parrotis still retailing the NYT story.
ReplyDeleteParrot Grader religiously ready the NYT and Washington Post.

Might others consider parrot a racist?
On a tangent can the Washington Post be considered a newspaper or is it more akin to Der Stürmer?
Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, an Air Force veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, tweeted that "Russia is not a partner, and not to be negotiated with" and that Trump "needs to immediately expose and handle this, and stop Russia's shadow war."
ReplyDeleteWhen has one nation stopped another nation's shadow war?
Only Russia has succeeded in stopping another nation's shadow war. The Russians find dupes (read dumb fuck liberals) in the target country and get said dupes to stop the shadow war through their elected representatives and newspapers.
ReplyDeleteRep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, the third-ranking Republican in the House, on Sunday appeared to accept Trump’s comment as true. In a tweet, she called for an explanation of “who did know and when,” and asked whether the topic had been raised in the PDB, or the president’s daily brief. Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas retweeted Cheney, adding, “we need answers.”
A key Trump ally, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Saturday it was “imperative Congress get to the bottom of” the allegations about Russia.
“I expect the Trump administration to take such allegations seriously and inform Congress immediately as to the reliability of these news reports,” Graham said on Twitter. He golfed with Trump on Sunday in Virginia.

ReplyDelete"Trump claims he never got the intel reports. If that is so, why has he not demanded an answer to why he was never given this material?"
How do you know that he has not demanded an answer? Does he have to make public every inquiry?
No one gives a shit what Lindsey Graham thinks. The only question is can he coast on incumbency and get reelected.
ReplyDeleteSchumer might use Lindsey for a split second for a vote or for the camera and then will put Lindsey away
The base does not like Lindsey. He overpromises and underdelivers.

In 2016, Grenell's consulting firm accepted more than $100,000 from the Magyar Foundation of North America to provide public relations support for the Hungarian government of Viktor Orbán. Grenell did not disclose this payment under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) prior to his work in the Trump administration.[28]
ReplyDeleteDays after Grenell's appointment as DNI, CNN reported that his personal website had—until 2018—touted consulting work he had done for clients in Iran, China, Kazakhstan and other countries
[Grennell was NOT with Intel when materials about Russian bonus to kill Americans became available and so what he says about this is irrelevant, not based on inside knowledge]
The White House press release stated that Grenell had "years of experience working with our Intelligence Community in a number of additional positions";[101] however, this assertion was disputed by others who asserted Grenell had little background in intelligence matters.[102][103][104] Republican Senator Susan Collins, one of four co-authors of the legislation creating the ODNI in 2004, said: "I care deeply about that position and believe the person needs experience in the intelligence community, which regrettably Ambassador Grenell does not have."[105]
On the day his tenure began, it was reported that Grenell had not disclosed payments for advocacy work on behalf of Moldovan politician Vladimir Plahotniuc.
We already knew about Grennell.
ReplyDeleteFunny how you want to impugn Grennell's statement on this controversy based on his past work while at the same time reading the racist Washington Post and decrying all attempts to infer anything about your moral character.
Pro Tip: Grennell worked with Orban. The Hungarian's actually like Orban and will like him 20 years from now, 50 years from now, 1,000 years from no and so on. So how is Grennell's work bad?
Have you, Parrot, denounced Karen Attiah or any other racists at Washington Post or the NYT. If you have not explain why we should respect you or your judgment?

ReplyDeleteFARA is is haphazardly enforced. and for the same incident Republicans are prosecuted but not Republicans even when they are working on the same project in the same country in the same year shoulder to shoulder.
Just keep bring up FARA and we'll bring up Podesta and others.
I am waiting for you to come up with a Moldova hoax, very dangerous country Moldova. We should have a round robin tourney between Monaco, Andorra, Lichtenstein, San Marino, and Moldova to see who would win.
