The Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, has declined an invitation to visit the White House this week to celebrate a new North American free trade deal, amid worsening coronavirus figures in the US and lingering tensions with Donald Trump.
Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obradoris due to meet Trump in Washington on Wednesday, and had urged Trudeau to attend the meeting.
But in a statement on Monday, Trudeau’s office said: “We wish the United States and Mexico well at Wednesday’s meeting. Is Trudeau insane? How will snubbing Mexico and the US benefit Canada?
ReplyDeleteHe is a bigger embarrasment than Trump and AMLO. Trudeau is like an adult on a skateboard, brainless. At least Trump tells China to F Off now and then.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s a brilliant move by Trudeau
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely certain that his “schedule” could be adjusted to go to the WH, but he is letting trump know that he would rather not visit him. It’s brilliant. After this president lied about trade with Canada claiming America was somehow being cheated by Canada. After trump slapped tariffs on Canadian steel saying Canada was somehow a security risk. After he embarrassed himself at the G7 summit with a quick exit to see his buddy Kim, and after he attacked Trudeau from the comfort of airforce one. After all these things and more, Trudeau says enough, you won’t be here in November, I don’t need to put up with your nonsense, and I have more important things to do than run to Washington for a photo op.
There is a trade imbalance. Among other things Canada subsidizes lumber. The US could always close the border, if Justine refuses to play.
