Did President Trump Say Americans Who Died In War Are 'Losers' And ' Suckers'?

The Atlantic: Trump: Americans Who Died in War Are ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers’

The president has repeatedly disparaged the intelligence of service members, and asked that wounded veterans be kept out of military parades, multiple sources tell The Atlantic.

When President Donald Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018, he blamed rain for the last-minute decision, saying that “the helicopter couldn’t fly” and that the Secret Service wouldn’t drive him there. Neither claim was true.

Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed.

Belleau Wood is a consequential battle in American history, and the ground on which it was fought is venerated by the Marine Corps. America and its allies stopped the German advance toward Paris there in the spring of 1918. But Trump, on that same trip, asked aides, “Who were the good guys in this war?” He also said that he didn’t understand why the United States would intervene on the side of the Allies.

WNU Editor: The White House has responded .... White House attacks 'false' Atlantic story about Trump insulting dead soldiers: 'What a disgrace!' (FOX News). What's my take? President Trump and Senator McCain did not like each other, and it is well known that Sen. McCain did everything that he could do to undermine President Trump. No surprises there. As for the rest of the story on disparaging America's war dead. The Atlantic provides no evidence. No audio or video. Just a couple of "anonymous" sources and some sharing their personal opinions?!?!?! I feel like I am living the Trump-Russia collusion story all over again. And I am. It was Sen. McCain who pushed the Steele Dossier and Russian - Collusion narrative in the first place. A story and dossier that we now know was (and is) completely bogus. And as for President Trump visiting military cemeteries. For a person who apparently does not want to go to US cemeteries, during his Presidency he has made numerous unannounced visits to these places when he did not need to do so .... Melania, Donald Trump pay unannounced visit to Arlington Cemetery ahead of Memorial Day (CNN).

  1. Polls are bad for Biden. Pelosi is looking and behaving like Cruella Deville. So they had to do a quick re-direct of the fake-news narrative and push out a lazy, bogus story about Trump calling US war dead bad names.

  2. America has always been "opposed but be able to compromise". No more now, and it is heart bleeding. How is it possible the left is so hatred to make this great value destroyed?

  3. Jac,

That's easy. The Left hates America. They hate it as it was founded and they hate it as it is. What they think will be the result of its destruction and how it will benefit them is beyond me.

Which is why they have to stopped or destroyed.

  4. Trump lost me the moment he made that comment about POWs...however... I've since come around. I may never like Trump but in terms of outcomes he is the least militaristic president we've had in decades...he visits those cemeteries but more importantly he isn't filling them. Far far liberals talk about this constantly (Jimmy Dore is an example) and give Trump credit on this point.

All this to say, who even cares what he says at this point? I care what he does or doesn't do, and compared to his predecessors he's putting fewer bodies in the ground.

  7. Shocked that a man with "bone spurs" (LOL!!!!) would ever say that about the armed forces. Or maybe he would, as he clearly used daddy's money to keep him out of Vietnam. Maybe he'd actually have become a man - as opposed to the cartoon character he is now - if he had served his country during war.

  8. Trump referred to former President George H. W. Bush as a “loser” for being shot down by the Japanese as a Navy pilot in World War II. (Bush escaped capture, but eight other men shot down during the same mission were caught, tortured, and executed by Japanese soldiers.)

  9. Sources Confirm Trump Remarks on Fallen Soldiers

President Trump denied in series of tweets that he had called fallen soldiers “losers” and “suckers,” as was reported in a blockbuster article in The Atlantic earlier in the evening.

The Associated Press, however, has multiple sources who confirmed the president’s disparaging remarks.

  10. Name the last guys that were in an active kinetic war zone"

John F Kennedy 57 years ago (that he was president) that we had such a president.

    Gerald Ford 44 years ago

George H.w. Bush 28 years ago. I remember esteemed Democrat pugilist and commentator Mary McGrory, wrote that Bush was such a bad pilot he got shot down by mere anti-aircraft fire. Mary who fought in many a battle in the European theater left out that it was a small island just north of Iow Jima every bit as well defended. That Bush was flying per ordered a slow torpedo bomber on a bombing mission. She also left out that the due to this the Americans were flying a predictable flight path over and over to take out radio or radar installations. But whatever. Make any sacrifice for the team right Mary?

GWB was in a unit that the DOD/president could have sent overseas to war.

I advised my kids not to sign up during a conflict until a year or two afterwards. MY reasoning being that they should wait until the liberals decide that they want America to win , throw out the liberal ROE and the country gets out of the storming phase and gets to the norming and performing stages.

But you know suck as , lick ass liberals always hate norms. So what are the chances?

  13. Russian media and other groups are intentionally “amplifying” concerns around mail-in voting in order to undermine the 2020 U.S. elections, a report compiled by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) made public Thursday found.

“We assess that Russia is likely to continue amplifying criticisms of vote-by-mail and shifting voting processes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic to undermine public trust in the electoral process,” DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis wrote in a bulletin sent to federal and state law enforcement partners.

The findings were first reported on and made public by ABC News.

The bulletin noted that the Russian influence efforts around mail-in voting have been going on since March, and that Russian state-controlled media and social media had been involved in this effort.

DR. FAUCI SAID, IF YOU CAN GO TO WALMART, YOU CAN VOTE IN PERSON.

We have had people arrested, charged and convicted of mail n vote fraud with 1,300 votes in their possession. We have had senate, presidential, and governor races decided by 1,000 votes or less.

But Democrats and other craven animals want to rush mail in voting nationwide. These animals like Nancy Pelosi will demand that people cut their hair, but not let that person to cut other people's hair to earn a living.

  17. Support for Trump among service members had already appeared to be slipping before the new report. Trump has a minus-12 (38-50) favorability rating among members of the military, according to a recent Military Times poll – down from plus-9 (46-37) at the start of his term.

Trump avoided service in Vietnam through a diagnosis of bone spurs by a late doctor whose daughters told the New York Times that the diagnosis was granted as a favor to Trump’s father, Fred Trump, who was the doctor’s landlord.

Trump has a long history of making dismissive or insulting comments about members of the military and insulting family members of fallen soldiers. After his impeachment hearings earlier this year, Trump attacked a star Democratic witness, Lt Col Alexander Vindman, as having “problems with judgment” and “leaking information” – charges a Vindman lawyer denied. Vindman was ousted from the national security council after testifying at the impeachment hearings.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump attacked the gold star family of Khizr and Ghazala Khan, whose son Cpt Humayun Khan was killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq in 2004. The couple spoke at that year’s Democratic national convention in protest of the president’s attacks on Muslims, saying Trump did not understand their son’s service or their sacrifice.

if you have to ask, then you do not know shit

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon has ordered the military’s independent newspaper, Stars and Stripes, to cease publication at the end of the month, despite Congressional efforts to continue funding the century-old publication.

The order to halt publication by Sept. 30, and dissolve the organization by the end of January, is the latest salvo in the Pentagon’s move earlier this year to cut the $15.5 million in funding for the paper from the department’s budget. And it is a reflection of the Trump administration’s broader animosity for the media and members of the press.

Members of Congress have objected to the defunding move for months. And senators sent a letter to Defense Secretary Mark Esper this week urging him to reinstate funding. The letter, signed by 15 senators — including Republicans and Democrats — also warns Esper that the department is legally prohibited from canceling a budget program while a temporary continuing resolution funding the federal government is in effect.
