Anti-Trump Republican Senators And Democrat Senators Drafting A Censure Resolution To Bar Former President Trump From Holding Office Again

Sens. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) are forging ahead with a draft proposal to censure former President Trump, and are considering introducing the resolution on the Senate floor next week.

Why it matters: Senators are looking for a way to condemn Trump on the record as it becomes increasingly unlikely Democrats will obtain the 17 Republican votes needed to gain a conviction, Axios Alayna Treene writes.

"I think it’s important for the Senate's leadership to understand that there are alternatives," Kaine told CNN on Wednesday. "If we can’t get to 67 votes for impeachment, there may be another way to hold President Trump accountable."

WNU Editor: The votes are not there to impeach the former President. So the scramble now is to make sure that former President Trump does not run for office again. Are there enough Republican senators who are willing to go down that road? We know that five Republican Senators will vote for impeachment and/or censure. Are there five more? In my opinion it will be close. But if ten Republican senators decide do go down this road, the Republican Party IMHO is going to lose a good part of its base and will become like the Republican party in California. A minority party for the next few generations.

  2. We are no more in democracy. If something like that will happen there will be a lot of trouble. This king of move is ignoring that more than 70 millions people vote for Trump. A slap on the face of all these American's.

  3. Trump during the election cycle of 2016 was no different than Trump as president.

Trump ran for president for about 18 months (1.5 years), which is a long enough time for Romney to form a judgement about Trump. After the election was over Romney applied for Sec. of State/

If Trump as candidate is not beyond the pale, then Trump as president is not beyond the pale. Romney was okay wit the former. If he is not okay with the latter, then he is inconsistent, lying , or sobbing about sour grapes IMO.

Romney is for impeachment and/or censure.

Romney should not be primaried. He should never get the chance. He should face a recall election.

I am still waiting to know what Trump said or did that was wrong. What? Tax cuts? Historically Low unemployment? Building up the military? Energy independence? Tough on China? Exposing DC corruption?
