Is This The Missile That The U.S. Army Will Use To Counter China?

Lockheed Martin's PrSM missile was tested for a third time at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, on April 30, 2020. (Lockheed Martin)

The Precision Strike Missile will be able to network with a variety of sensors and will be able to hit targets out at sea.

The Army envisions its emerging and now-in-development 500km-ranged Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) as a unique and potentially breakthrough multi-domain weapon system able to destroy enemy air defenses and even surface ships at great distances.

Service weapons developers, many of whom see the PrSM as a critical and fast-evolving innovation, are already expanding their vision for the weapon and looking beyond its near-term mission scope.

“We are thinking past 2023 and thinking about how we’re going to use the Precision Strike Missile to hit ships and air defenses,” Brig. Gen. John Rafferty, Director, Long Range Precision Fires Cross Functional Team, Army Futures Command, told The National Interest in an interview.

WNU Editor: The US Army is looking at 2023 as the year that will change everything .... For the US Army’s fires capability, 2023 is the year that will change everything (Defense News).

  1. Spending trillions on missiles that will be leading edge for a few years is a fruitless endevour. Look at Syria where their far outdated tech is used, does it stop attacks? You only get attacked when you are weak, you get overwhelmed, you get kited, these missiles are just another step in a long road to catching up. Because missiles are defensive, dumb bombs, cheaps bombs, well you spend more in protecting what you have with castles, motes then you do on a sword and a horse. The moment Chinese missile rain down on a country, is the same moment they lose decades and trillions in research and development, the same moment their enemey gets the same capability. The USA should be investing in what they have always invested in, platforms that drop and fire cheap bombs.

  2. There is this movie, league of extraordinary gentlemen. The Britsh man, accurate, only fire 1 bullet from his rifle and hit his target. The American with his revolers shooting bullet after bullet.

Fact is behind the scene, Americans have removed luck, removed a bad day, removed all these factors by shooting thousands of rounds.

Personally, i don't know why they want to be like the British, its a matter of odds, all or nothing vs everything.

  4. 500 nm range is puny in the Pacific. 1000nm is the entry point for controlling access to the vast network of islands the US controls out there.

Incidentally Taiwan needs all the firepower the US can give to them. Nukes have to be on the table.

  5. Anon 11:53 has got it right--China would not dare invade Taiwan if Taiwan had nukes.

  6. Have you ever seen college students p[lay Star Fleet Battles? Subsequently, they go into the military and some of them work on the war game simulations.

    Here is the question.

Has a recent US president from Bill Clinton onward sat in on one of these simulations. Have they questioned the assumptions or looked at the what if scenarios?

Maybe sitting in on the simulation in addition to being briefed, when make the QWDR more interesting reading.

Joe Biden is being hid in the White House Basement. More spacious digs than his basement in Delaware to be sure. So it is an 'upgrayd' for him.

But what about Kamala. She could attend.

Maybe some Representatives or Senators could attend if they have the proper clearances and they are on the intel or defense committees. Unless their name is Leaky Leahy or "I slept with a spy "Swalwell".

  8. 4:46 denies that Swalwell slept with a Chienese spy. Even the FBI does not deny it.

FBI Reportedly Confirms Rep. Eric Swalwell Had Sexual Relationship With Chinese Spy

And of course there is Senator Patrick Leahy who deliberately leaked classified information to hurt President Reagan in 1987. As a result, he was thrown off the Senate Intelligence Committee and...

4:46 is Christine Fang barren? After sleeping with so many Democrat party member is her cup overfloweth? Has she been sensitized and now has a semen allergy?

    Biden bribes Manchin, bye-bye filibuster

At least Gayle Conelly Manchin is a high class demimonde. She only sold her integrity for $165 million.

Maybe there should be a aw against having the wives of senators serve in the executive branch.

Not that it matters. There was a fortune 50 company that has company laws that bars the relatives of C-levels from being hired. This C-level was the chief diversity officer. The day after they retired, they literally walked their child's resume through HR. The kid was hired. A senator could do the same thing laws or no laws.
