U.S. and China Officials Both Deny Spymaster Dong Jingwei Has Defected To The U.S.

Newsweek: Exclusive: U.S. and China Officials Both Deny Spymaster Dong Jingwei Has Defected

Rumors of Dong Jingwei's bombshell defection to the United States are not true, officials from both governments have told Newsweek as the high-ranking Chinese official reportedly made another public appearance on Wednesday.

Beijing is yet to make any formal public statements about 57-year-old Dong, who is second in command at the Ministry of State Security.

But a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington said the top counterintelligence official participated virtually in the 16th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's Security Council Secretaries with other member states on June 23. According to Legal Daily, a website run by the Communist Party's Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, a number of other Chinese officials were also present, while China's Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi addressed the attendees.

  1. The Chinese set the Pentagon up and they have a fake? That would be one of two worst possible outcomes in my mind.

The other bad outcome is that the Biden admin made it up.

    Who knows.

    1. Too much of this is too perfect. But you never know.

  2. The Chinese have a body double? The Chinese and American public would never know.

  3. This doesn't surprise me. The idea that a top official of a major world power would defect seemed far fetched from the start.

Did the Biden Administration simply make this up or was the Pentagon duped? Either one is certainly possible. The US leadership class has huge ideological blind spots rendering them very easy to dupe and they certainly think they can lie about anything and get away with it. If it was a con job, it should have been easily prevented. 1.) While defectors can have some utility, they should never be trusted as a primary source. Everything they share needs to be verified by more reliable sources. 2.) Once the story "checks out," then perhaps you tout the fact that you have a defector. You will want to make sure your "defector" doesn't send you on a "wild goose chase." A certain degree of skepticism when dealing with such personnel will be helpful.

If it was top US officials who initially spread the rumor, then they now have even less credibility with other world leaders than they had before. As I have stated elsewhere, should the cold war with China become hot, most of the world is going to side with China or they won't actively assist the US choosing to offer passive resistance instead or simply remaining neutral. If US officials got duped or they lied, lining up the necessary allies to conduct a successful war effort against China is going to be even more problematic than it was before and the excessive yapping about this by the US media who was presumably being fed information by the leadership class has now likely stirred up anger within China giving them the necessary cover to attack the US preemptively should they choose to do so. The Chinese leadership may have set a trap for us and our leaders were completely unaware!! Hopefully I'm wrong.

  5. This story is very fishy. No mater what is right or false, the bottom line is America looks ridiculous. If this huge stupid thing happens with Trump, imagine the volcanic effect on the media's. That said, almost every day we can see this administration being worse and worse.
China will make a cyber or physically (or both) Pearl Harbor very easy. I pray I am wrong.

  6. Jac,

I pray you're wrong as well. It is important that we warn people of the Dore nature of the threats. If enough people catch on, the necessary policy changes can be implemented.

  7. Policy changes like you being deported?

  8. You want me deported? Such is the state of ideological thought processes that dominates much of America that some wish harm to people who point out obvious facts that they are either unwilling or unable to face.
