Senior Japanese Defense Official Warns U.S. Of Potential Surprise Attack From Russia And China

Washington Examiner: Japanese official warns US of potential surprise attack on Hawaii — from Russia and China

Russia and China are coordinating military exercises to threaten not only Taiwan but also Hawaii, according to a senior Japanese defense official who warned the United States to beware of a Pearl Harbor-style surprise attack.

“We have to show the deterrence towards China, and not just China but also the Russians, because, as I told you, that they are doing their exercises together,” Japanese deputy Yasuhide Nakayama told the Hudson Institute this week.

Taiwan’s vulnerability to an invasion from mainland China has become a preoccupation of Indo-Pacific strategists in recent months, as Chinese Communist forces escalate their military drills around the island.

Nakayama, who was unusually frank about the need for democratic nations to ensure Taiwan’s survival, implied that Russia and China are working as allies preparing for a major conflict.

WNU Editor: In today's environment I see zero probability of a joint Russia - China surprise attack on the U.S..

  1. Agreed WNU, interesting article regardless. The book 'Ghost Fleet' by August Cole and P.W. Singer lays out this scenario almost exactly and is a fascinating read.

I'll take your word for it, but, as I'm sure is already the case, multiple such scenarios should be gamed and prepared for. Even so, history is littered with Black Swan events that, by nature, cannot be prepared for. But they CAN be expected, in which case we could at least have a number of modular plug-and-play contingencies in place to at least help minimize the effects.

  4. First you need to publicly trial and hang the illegitimate government that is engaged in a coup and conspiracy and treason against the will of the American people

Until Harris, Biden, Schiff,Pelosi,Swalwell and all other traitors are hung by the neck, the US cannot project any real strength outwards , certainly not fend of an aggression which is well under way and aided by the illegitimate terrorists and traitors currently hiding in Washington DC

They just be hung publicly for order and democracy to be restored after what they've done

Same with the enablers in the media and big tech. They went too far. Long prison sentences for these vile people

  5. An argument could be made for appearances. Get them to look here and hit there.
Ghost Fleet sounds interesting. Thank you for the tip, Adam.

  6. No one saw the Soviet-Nazi Germany pact coming, despite Germany's long antagonistic view towards the Soviets. Yet it happened. Secret agreements were made.

Russia and China possess a far less hostile relationship than Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia. It's mainly a hefty dosage of ignorance and narrow-mindedness from those who proclaim a 'zero probability', often forgetting history where alliances and military collaboration was born out of more hostile relationships than today.

    Unlikely? Yes. Zero chance? No.

  7. "In today's environment..." If we mean right here right now as I'm typing this or as the editor typed his words, I agree. In the future, things may be different.

At this point, there would be no reason to UNLESS our leadership does something EXTREMELY stupid beyond what they've already done. The preferred method is likely as Napoleon observed. When an enemy is destroying themselves why get in their way.

The Japanese official is toying to warn our leadership class about something I've known for years and have been pointing out for a long time. Perhaps they will listen to this man and heed his warnings.

The three top threats to America in order of likelihood of occurrence are 1.) An attack by Islamic terrorists in which multiple suitcase nuclear weapons and other dirty bombs are detonated simultaneously across multiple metropolitan areas. 2.) An all nuclear attack by Russia. This would likeky be accompanied by cyber attacks and other Saratoga making a retaliatory strike by us problematic at best. 3.) An invasion of the US mainland by Russia, China, Russia and China, or Russia and China and some combination of Russia, China, and their allies.

While scenario 1 is the most likely, scenario 2 is the most dangerous. Anon at 1:02 is absolutely correct on pointing out that we need to be preparing for these things and many thanks to the Japanese leader for sounding the alarm, however, his sudden concern for Taiwan is a bit puzzling. Perhaps he's issuing his warning in language that might get the attention of our leadership class.
