Axios: Biden: U.S. combat mission in Iraq will be completed 'by the end of the year'
The United States' combat mission against the Islamic State in Iraq will be completed "by the end of the year," President Biden said Monday prior to a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
Why it matters: Biden is close to shifting the U.S. military mission in Iraq to a fully advisory role more than 18 years after combat troops were sent to the country under the former President George W. Bush.
What they're saying: U.S. troops would "be available, to continue to train, to assist, to help, and to deal with ISIS as it...arrives. But we’re not going to be, by the end of the year, in a combat mission," Biden told reporters before the meeting. He did not offer a formal end date to the conflict mission, which commenced more than seven years ago.
WNU Editor: I've heard this story before. In the meantime U.S. troops will still remain in Syrtia .... Troops to stay put in Syria even as Biden seeks to end America’s ‘forever wars’ (Politico).

Biden's clique may not be interested in combat, but combat might be interested in them. Iran and its lacks in Iraq will become ever more brazen in their attacks on the remaining US troops.

"Apparently, the long endless wars that never ended until apparently now on Joe Biden's watch served as a study point for our enemies to observe our strategies and tactics."
"The strategies of a variety of opponents, from China to Iran, has been based around deploying mobile and flexible forces against concentrations of American forces. The Taliban in Afghanistan pursued a variation on that same course of action. Being the biggest kid on the block means that the smaller kids will look to their strengths, rather than try to match us blow for blow."
"Considering how successful the Chinese, the Russians, and seemingly just about everyone, including the North Koreans, have been at hacking us, that's hardly much of a surprise. "
Any goodwill the US had from 2007 to 2014 has disappeared in the last 7 years. Obama left the Sunni to the depredations of the Shia and Iran in 2011.
Until the defeat of the Ayatollahs will the Iraqi Shia like the US more than Iran? I think not.
If the US is training the Iraqi Army, it does not look like we are helping the Kurds. So why are we there?
The US needs to retool for peer to peer battles.
I have a mixed feeling about that.
ReplyDeleteLeaving there we will be replaced by Iran, China, Russia.
In an other hand, we are very stretched and we need all our force against China. That's a choice.
