* The pact means Australian navy will be equipped with nuclear-powered vessels made by US and UK
* France was due to make Australia's new subs - but claimed last night it had been 'stabbed in the back'
* New Zealand also isolated with Jacinda Ardern declaring the submarines will be banned from their waters
Joe Biden has found himself at the epicenter of another international outcry after the President announced a new pact between the US, UK and Australia to build a fleet of nuclear submarines to combat China.
The new alliance - called AUKUS - will see the US and UK cooperate to build Australia's first ever nuclear submarine fleet of at least eight vessels.
It has been condemned by China as an example of 'Cold War mentality' and left France fuming after the new deal saw a pre-existing $90billion contract for France to build Australia's subs torn up.

Not that the French have ever been that friendly, but this is a new low in alienation.
True story: Time magazine ran an article years back about plans to create Euro Disney. A later letter to the editor wondered where they would find 20,000 friendly Frenchmen to work there.
I can't see why the Government of France would step into this matter.
Was there a contract with Australia about these submarines? If so who were the parties--like Australis and some French corporation. If Australia breeched the contract, then sue them. But please, no whining by the French Government.
That being said, France has been a long time US ally and the US should seek to reassure France if their feelings are hurt.
They are butthurt for loosing precious money, Europe desperately needs money because they are getting broke. It's all a glasshouse. Another refugee wave and it will slowly begin to shatter even faster than it's already been doing.
Emanuel to Putin: Extra extra, read all about it! Submarines for sale!
2:43 said what I wanted to say. They said it very well.
Hans has a good comment. It shows the limits of a bad immigration system and socialism.
Sides are forming up, nations defended by the USA are being asked to choose if they want that defense relationship. If they do they must confront China publicly and with serious money committed to allied needs.
As far as I can tell Japan, India, Australia, Taiwan, USA and Britain have chosen the same Anti China side, regardless of Chinese retaliation.
That is an awesome alignment of brains, brawn and people. Other nations will join, all pacific nations but this leaves Europe sidelined focusing only on Russian threats. NATO is reeling from the Biden Afghanistan debacle and his betrayal of NATO partners. Now it’s a lesser partnership than the one being created in the pacific. NATO doesn’t matter to the USA that much, but bilateral deals do. Poland, Norway, Greece understand this very well.
The French reap what they sowed.
I lived half a century in France and I can testify how much the French hate the USA.
Their crocodile tears are of shameful hypocrisy.
My parents met a French could in the NW of France. They were very friendly, because of the Allied liberation. Then they caught my mother's accent and flipped.
I have minority in-laws live in France as permanent residents or nationals now. They gave their kids French first names. They also speak French very well. They are also not on welfare. ... And they have been discriminated against. I have seen it with my own eyes.
Why did the French elect a nancy boy? They'd been better off, if they had elected an out blue collar Castro type, if they have those over there.
If the deal was inked 5 years ago, you would have though that the French would have laid down a keel already. Even with slow ship building, I would think the French would have produced 1.5 subs so far.
It seems to me someone broke a contract.
"The U.S.-U.K.-Australia agreement, announced Wednesday, scuppered a 2016 deal that Australia sealed with France to acquire 12 diesel-powered subs from shipbuilder Naval Group. Officials said it was especially galling because it went against President Joe Biden’s repeated insistence that he was abandoning Donald Trump’s more confrontational approach and would work more closely with U.S. allies."
