An F-16 fighter jet was scrambled over the skies of New York City to chase away a small plane after its pilot wandered into restricted area near the United Nations as leaders from around the world gathered for the General Assembly, military officials said Tuesday.
The civilian plane that was kicked out of city airspace was reported to be a single-engine Cessna. Several witnesses took to Twitter and reported hearing loud noises made by low-flying aircraft near the George Washington Bridge - the span that connects New Jersey to Upper Manhattan.

I was at an open air presidential rally years ago. A small plane heading to the Earnest Hemingway contest in Key West didn’t get the memo and flew right at the stadium. At least one fighter jet made several low passes in front of the plane. Was really close and loud. The candidate didn’t miss a beat. It was very scary in the post-9/11 era.
