World Health Organization Says It Is Monitoring A New Colombian COVID Variant Called 'Mu'

The variant was first spotted in Colombia in January. It has since been detected in 40 countries 

 

Daily Mail: World Health Organization says it is monitoring new Colombian COVID variant called 'Mu' amid fears it may be vaccine-resistant as Delta infections finally slow in US 

* World Health Organization named the 'Mu' COVID-19 strain, B.1.621, a variant of concern 

* Strain originated in Colombia and has since been detected in the United States and Europe 

* Experts at the WHO fear that the variant could have the ability to evade vaccines 

* Variant accounted for around 1% of COVID-19 cases early in summer but has since faltered due to the rise of the Delta variant 

* Mu is becoming a point of concern just as growth of the Delta variant begins to slow down 

The World Health Organization has issued a warning about yet another new COVID-19 variant it fears could potentially evade vaccines. 

That variant, called Mu, was first detected in Colombia in January, and has been announced just as the Delta variant finally appears to be peaking in the U.S. 

Over 4,600 cases of the variant, whose scientific name is B.1.621, have been spotted since then, and it has spread to more than 40 countries.
