DW: Ethiopia declares state of emergency as Tigray forces gain ground

The Ethiopian government has declared a national state of emergency amid fears that Tigray insurgents are preparing to march on the capital, Addis Ababa.

Ethiopia's cabinet on Tuesday declared a nationwide state of emergency after fighters from the northern province of Tigray claimed to have seized two strategic towns, state-affiliated media said.

Fana Broadcasting Corporate said the state of emergency was aimed at protecting civilians from possible atrocities.

  2. Abiy Ahmed should know better. He worked with the Tigrayans, when they fought Marxist–Leninist regime of Mengistu Haile Mariam. Makes me think he might be a crypto-Muslim.

He has had a a great deal of military experience. Did he think the Tigrayans had gone soft? What was he thinking? What have the Tigrayans done to him? He know many Tigrayans and speaks the language. Makes me think this is ethnic or religious.
