THE world is "one mistake" from all-out nuclear war thanks to Vladimir Putin's "dangerous games" in Eastern Europe, warns an ex-Navy chief.
Moscow is amassing 100,000 troops on its Ukrainian border and is also supporting Belarus dictator Alexander Lukashenko as he "weaponises" migrants against the EU.
And after accusing the US of conducting nuclear bomber drills 20km from its border, the Kremlin said its nuke forces were "on alert" and it had stepped up its military partnership with China.
Admiral Lord West told The Sun Online the situation "is extremely dangerous and risky" with Putin playing "games in the area of grey warfare - things short of war."
He continued: "In terms of the nuclear clock, I think we are closer to midnight than we've been certainly since the 1960s probably.

WNU Editor: Sending a UK warship near Crimea is one way to provoke a conflict .... Was The UK Navy's Black Sea Antics Stupid? (June 27, 2021).
What is so fucking special about Crimea? Russia is like that person, who have to tiptoe around because one sudden movement or sound will send them into a tantrum. Mental case. Crimea is no different than Alaska. Both side send ships and planes to rest response time, show resolve or test wills.
ReplyDeleteIf Crimea is sensitive, because it should be Russian but was not Russian, the Russians only have the Soviet system made by the Russians to blame. It was the Soviets under Nikita Khrushchev, who did some wheeling dealing that place Crimea under Ukraine. That was all you doing the heavy lifting there. Then US was not so much as giving encouragement. In 1991 when Ukraine broke away, the US did not assign Crimea to Russia. Unless there is something we do not know. I kind of doubt it. Ukraine should have kept their nukes and let demographics or a plebiscite decide the Crimean question.
Personally, I think Crimea belongs to Turkey. They had it before the Russians.
WNU Editor: Sending a UK warship near China is one way to provoke a conflict as well.

ReplyDeleteWhat a moronic comment. You should get out more. If a merchant ship has right of passage in a water way (not an inland one) and if a nation is belligerent toward those ships or their destinations, then it is a duty for navies to protect those ships to include patrolling the waters and showing the flag.
It is China's own damn fault that navies transiting the Taiwan straights. Countries have neither the inclination to go bother someone about water. There is always a fire somewhere like the Red Sea, the Persian Gulf. The Lombok straights, the coast of Somalia, the Bight of Africa. There is always training as well. Field Marshall Milley like nothing better than eating bonbons, chasing it with a shot of whisky and curling up with his latest book White Fragility. and then forcing such clap trap on the rest of the military.
Sailed on merchant ships in and around those waters and I have strong feeling about piracy and shit antic by countries like China.
Britain no longer has a large navy, air force or even a field Army. It has a very small self defence force which will be very effective if Britain is attacked by Luxembourg or Monaco or perhaps the Isle of Man. The Rooskies could knock out every RAF station & navy base in less than an hour with missile strikes. We can't even defend our borders against millions of economic invaders, erm I mean economic migrants. Those British politicians & service chiefs are full of it, obviously on drugs. Keep ducking 🙈
ReplyDeleteEh sending warships into the channel could be seen as similar by that metric then I suppose.
ReplyDeleteBoth sides have been acting foolishly to me and it's the wrong conflict.
ReplyDeleteIf China, Iran or Russia sent ships through the Channel there is jack the Brits, French or US could do about it except shadow them.
ReplyDeleteRussian warships pass through English Channel
Don't like it, but war is not threatened like the jackwagons in China threaten.
