Israel Launches Massive Attack On The Syrian Port Of Latakia

NBC/Reuters: Israel hits Syrian port for second time this month, Syrian state media reports

Israel has mounted attacks against what it says are Iranian targets in Syria, where Tehran-backed forces have deployed in support of President Bashar al-Assad.

Syrian state media reported Tuesday that Israel had launched an air strike on the port of Latakia, setting ablaze the container storage area and damaging nearby buildings in a second attack on the facility this month.

An Israeli military spokesperson declined to comment. “We don’t comment on foreign reports,” the spokesperson said. The Syrian reports made no mention of any casualties.

  1. I can see know reason for Israel to strike Latakia unless the Iranians had offloaded, were offloading or were going to offload military equipment destined for the Israeli border such as rickets, missiles or artillery tubes.

I also an astounded that the Israelis struck that port since it is so important to the Russians. While the Israelis made sure not to hit Russians, port facilities might have been hit. If they were, then the port may be rather less useful to the Russian Bear. Future meeting could be quite tense.
