The Guardian: EU and UK announce sanctions targeting Vladimir Putin and Sergei Lavrov

Move is largely symbolic but part of attempt to highlight resolve to stand up to Russia over Ukraine

The EU and the UK have moved to freeze foreign-held assets of Vladimir Putin and his foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, after Europe was accused by Ukraine’s president of failing to act hard and fast enough against Russian aggression.

The initiative is largely symbolic, as the Russian president is unlikely to have identifiable personal wealth abroad, but the move by Brussels and Downing Street followed recognition that appeals for action from Volodymyr Zelenskiy had to be heard.

  1. Who posted at 3:07? Fred?

Fred has used that longing style, that source and that handle.

Britain, Germany and France get 30% of their natural gas from Russia. What if We cut Russia off form SWIFT then what.

What would Robert Kuttner have us do? Russia could insist on payment for gas via SWIFT. If Russia does not get payment via SWIFT then Russia could deem legitimately that the Euro-trash broke the contract and stop shipping gas.

The would would Freddie or Robbie Kuttner do?

  2. Freddie or Robbie could claim that cutting Russia off from SWIFT and the stopping of gas shipments is something Europe can survive but Russia cannot. Have economists and the military war gamed it?

Remember China may buy enough gas form Russia so it can survive a SWIFT cutoff.

    Robbie is an emo strategist.

    no brains

  3. WARNING FOR RUSSIA

What if XI tells Putin he has his back and then 6 months to a year from now he seizes Russia oil fields in Siberia and foregoes Taiwan?

  4. Putin could get out of sanctions, if he just showed he was a man of the people. If he let it be known that hos personal pronouns were he, him, his or they them theirs, is popularity would sky rocket in the West.

Also Putin should use other appropriate labels

"Reminder not to assign gender to someone from Ukraine when tweeting about World War 3. Remember to use the correct term “folx”, when referring to all Ukrainian folx! It is not that hard to be inclusive of all genders in Ukraine."

  5. Admittedly, sanctions will do little to change things for some time. But our pundits here seem to offer nothing. Might I suggest they form a Lincoln Brigade (as Americans in the Spanish Civil War) and go fight the Russians? Even your pal Tucker now blames Putin. That leaves only your Main Man Trump who has yet to say a bad word about the invasion of a nation by Putin.

  6. Many people in the Lincoln Brigade were massacred.

I do not and I do not have-to go into these things unless there is a good plan. One, I have already done my time. Two, Biden does not have a good plan.

Finally, someone has the inkling of a good plan, which is to send 40,000 troops to Eastern Europe, That is about 4 divisions worth. That is a start. If the drooling idiot Biden had done that 3 weeks ago, Putin would not have invaded. This is all on him.

Trump said the about same thing Hillary said. Hillary tried to avoid criticizing Biden will shifting the blame onto Trump. She knows she is lying so now she has a stuttering problem too.

Trump did tell Putin he would bomb Moscow, if Putin invaded Ukraine. But Moscow is safe, because Biden stole the election.

Sure Biden stole the election, but he did get some legit votes from doofuses like you. So this is on you also.

  7. These garbage sanctions, do these experts really not think that putin had factored them into his decision to invade?.

  8. Biden putting many sanctions into place. True. No immediate impact. Over time they will count. meantime: badmouthing Biden with "no plan" is silly. What would you do? NATO is NOT going into the battle. The US: you want us to go right into Ukraine and fight the Russians? If so: then say what you would do other than sending troops here and there but not going to war. Either you want us to enter the war or you are just saying nothing but insults. Put up: what would you do?

  9. You assert the sanctions will work. So long as Russia has a positive balance of trade all you are doing is pissing on everyone and calling it rain.

We had sanction after 2014. Result was Putin sanction the US pork industry. Russia grew its pork industry and is now a pork supplier to China.

Now you want to rinse and repeat.

You are so uneducated that your best way forward in life is as an organ donor. CANIBALIZED FOR PARTS.

Things are really serious now. This is more than a national fight for top spot. This is international and for all the cookie,. Press is scared. They will start to do their job. Watch President Jill Biden's numbers go down.

  11. I aks a question. You are unable or unwilling to answer so you just insult me, the sort of schoolyard bullshit in middleschool.
I will now ask again: what do you suggest we do?
now for your insults. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE THE PRESIDENT? If you can not answer in a way that makes sense, then plz stop your sillh insults. They reflect on you.

ps;: China now telling Putin to negotiate, a way of course to take sides but to get Putin off the hook if he has to quit the mess he has made.

  12. Grand Jury is meeting on Hunter right now.

Sad that the grand jury will not be over before the full impact of the Ukriane invasion and the horrible, no good rotten SOTUS performance comes to light.

If the DNC tells Biden to step down, they will force his hand by dangling Hunter's prosecution over Joe's head.
