KYIV/MOSCOW, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the West on Tuesday of deliberately creating a scenario designed to lure it into war and ignoring Russia's security concerns over Ukraine.

In his first direct public comments on the crisis for nearly six weeks, a defiant Putin showed no sign of backing down from security demands that the West has called non-starters and a possible excuse to launch an invasion, which Moscow denies.

"It's already clear now ... that fundamental Russian concerns were ignored," Putin said at a news conference with the visiting prime minister of Hungary, one of several NATO leaders trying to intercede with him as the crisis has intensified.

  1. I am not getting this. I will have to reread some things.

IF you are on the silk road between two other cities, how do you make money? Trade comes from the city to the east and flow through your city and goes on to the the city to the west. It works in the other direction as well.

Ukraine literally has to do business with Russia. It has to do business with Europe. These things are gives.

The conflict never was about trade, but about which sphere or which military political bloc Ukraine would be part of. This was never about Russian language or culture in Ukraine except as a wedge issue, except as pretext for Russia.

If Ukraine is part of the European sphere what does it mean? A European military political bloc is not a military threat to Russia. There is not a lot of military in the European military/political bloc. They are cutting their militaries to the bone. Russia is not under threat of military conquest. Merkel; would not do it. Schultz would not do it. Macron would not do it. Boris would do it, but only if his wife/partner asked him.

Russia want to expand to its old borders at least outside the Stans. More importantly Russian leaders wants to keep the relatively people happy and ensure their mandate from Heaven. If Putin M<arches on the Rhineland has an Anschluss and takes over Sudentenland and does not engage in a war, the people will love him and the oligarchy will continue.

If he gets into a major war obviously the people will hate the oligarchy if Russia loses.

Sure the Russian GDP per capita is higher than Ukraine's, but so what. That is like a D student telling people he has a higher grade point than an F student. German had the German miracle after WW2. 30 years after WW2, life was good. 30 years after 1991 can the Russian government say the same? Russia should have more of an European GDP per capita. So to keep the people happy, they substitute territorial enlargement?

Sure the AMERICAN ELITE ARE FUCKING ASSHOILES, BUT THAT DOES NOT LET THE RUSSIAN ELITE OF THE HOOK.
