Schroeder as former chancellor has brought Russian oligarchs introduction to German finance, business and labor leadership. Today Germany has grown cultural ties with Russia that didn’t exist before the Berlin Wall fell. Self interest guides Germany and right now they see no threat from Russia but do see serious threats from the USA. The USA threatens Germanys economic interests by use of sanctions against German companies. It is threatening Germanys safety by endlessly pitting NATO against Russia. Russia does neither. Who is Germanys true ally?

Economic interests?

You can change trade routes and trade treaties. Once you lose your physical freedom, economics means squat.
